Las Vegas Raiders?

Top Raiders brass will reportedly visit Las Vegas on Friday to scout a potential stadium site.

The reports are all a bit secondhand, but are based on a memo from University of Nevada Las Vegas president Len Jessup. Owner Mark Davis said he would neither confirm nor deny the report. With stadium efforts going exactly nowhere in Oakland, and Davis dead set against a move to St. Louis, Vegas is a highly interesting wild card option. The town has long been desperate for a professional team of any kind, but faced resistance as the American hub of legalized gambling.

FOX Las Vegas reports Las Vegas casino magnate Sheldon Adelson is looking to spearhead a project to build a $1 billion, domed football stadium "with or without a team."

The stadium would be built on 42 acres of land recently purchased by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. It would reportedly be a "public-private partnership," with the developers possibly requesting that "funds from hotel room taxes be diverted to the project." The news comes the same day that word leaked Raiders owner Mark Davis will be visiting the city to survey the site on Friday. The NFL's queasiness about gambling would be a major hurdle to relocating a team to the Nevada desert.

Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports the possibility of the Raiders moving to Las Vegas is "very real," and that owner Mark Davis has been discussing the possibility with casino magnate Sheldon Adelson for "two years."

Concurrently, longtime Raiders reporter Bill Williamson reports Las Vegas is "confident" about attracting a team to town. Almost assuredly, lots of this is hot air, but it's something to be taken seriously since the Raiders' Oakland situation is beyond tenuous at this point. The major roadblock is the NFL's extreme aversion toward appearing to support gambling. Of all the league's 32 owners, Davis is probably near the bottom when it comes to the kind of clout that would be needed to persuade for such a move.

The NFL adverse to appearing to support gambling? Football games are already bet on and the fanduel type sites out there that they obviously have the power to shut them down if they wanted. Instead ...

For those who think the National Football League has taken a moral stance against “daily fantasy sports” by refusing to become a shareholder of either FanDuel or DraftKings, think again. It’s not that the NFL has a stronger moral aversion to daily fantasy sports than the NBA and Major League Baseball. Rather, America’s most profitable sports league has perhaps found a better way to profit from the emerging industry.

But then came the revolution. Money opened the minds of the major leagues, uncorking a digital gold rush that includes the latest big industry splash: FanDuel, the nation's biggest daily fantasy sports company, has signed multi-year sponsorship agreements with 15 NFL teams.

"It's amazing," Nigel Eccles, FanDuel's CEO, told USA TODAY Sports in announcing the deal. "It's surprised us how quickly everything has moved."

The deals mark the latest proof that pro sports leagues are rapidly integrating with an industry that many have compared to their longtime bogeyman — sports gambling.
Anybody who thinks the NFL isn't associated with gambling is fooling themselves.

I agree and it is one of the main reason for advanced injury reports from teams and the league questioning the validity of reported injuries. Much about betting you can bet on that

I doubt the NFL will allow a Vegas team...I think it would be a decent city for an NFL team
