Isn't spearing illegal in the NFL?

I'm watching Pittsburgh vs. Cincinnati, and I'm thinking that Cincy is getting ripped off. Late third quarter, Shazier of Pittsburgh drove the crown of his helmet into Giovanni Bernard's jaw, knocking him out. And the refs missed the spearing. And the announcers missed it. And their former ref, Jim Carey missed it. Worst of all, Bernard lost control of the ball (being unconscious) so they gave the Steelers the ball.

The announcers are total carp though. There was an obvious (on replay) forward pass, and they didn't even look at the play before insisting that 'that one won't be overturned' - just before it was.

I hope this "no home team has scored yet" doesn't carry on tomorrow, needless to say!

Yeah. The announcers are kind of annoying. Trying to defend every call. The Bengals definitely got screwed out of at least three points there. But Bengals fans should still have more class than to throw things on the field and cheer when Ben gets hurt.

This game is great. You should all be watching. Two straight turnovers with under two minutes left, in a one-point game.

And now a crippled Roethlisberger coming on to save the season.

Craziest postseason game I've probably ever seen. This second half has been bananas

Cincinnati had an epic meltdown. Marvin Lewis will lose his job because of his diva players. Say what you want about the refs, cincy had a wealth of chances at the end. The refs were fine. The Bengals were not.

It disturbs me to no end that the fans cheered and threw stuff at Ben. That is disgusting.

I turned off the game early because it was boring me. I turned it back on midway through the 4th.

That was without a doubt the ugliest ending to a game I've ever watched.

I have to ask the question: If Marvin Lewis's players are that far out of control, is he the right guy to lead them? That was a pretty epic breakdown of control.

I wonder what the stats day about the turnaround. 16 seconds left, at midfield, with no timeouts must not give you a good chance of winning, but the same setup at the opponents 20 is about 95%.

I felt really bad for Dalton, who probably wins this one easy.

Burfict showed why he went undrafted. All that talent but can't help but act like a thug.

They ar both bad. Just because one wasn't called doesn't mean it was "ok". Burfict should be suspended for four games. He could easily have killed the WR on that play.

You think that post defends Burfict?

I watched that play with the hit, pretty dirty.
He deserved a long suspension.
