So, how does a team win the Super Bowl? It's not easy. First thing you need is a fairly decent offense. A QB that does not throw the game away, and an offense that scores around 25 points per game at a minimum. Now here is were it gets good. You don't need and elite QB. What you need is a top defense in stopping the other team from scoring. If you have defense that can hold the other team to under 17 ppg, you have a good chance of winning the Super Bowl if your offense scores 25 ppg. Sounds basic right? It is. The average Super Bowl winner holds the other teams to 16 points per game during the season, and scores 25 ppg during the season. The key is the Defense. An elite QB is required right. The last 20 years an the QB along with the defensive ranking in ppg.

Brady had defense's ranked 6, 1, 2 and 8.
Rodgers, Packers were ranked 2nd.
Wilson 1.
Big Ben, 1 and 3.
Elway, 6 and 8.
Favre, 1
Ravens were 1 and 12.
Eli, well Eli had 17 and 25, When the Giants got the playoffs, the defense stepped up and held the other teams to 14 points per game.
Brees defense was 20.
Payton Manning his was 23. Same as Eli, when the Colts made it, the defense stepped up and held the other teams to 6, 8, 34 and 17 points.

The only player on that list that didn't have major help from his defense is Brees.

He had plenty of help from the refs .. the Saints played so dirty.. it was obvious they were trying to injure people
rolling and twisting their legs..

And the defenses that didn't have help from a top 10 QB?
Pretty sure a good QB helps a defense too. Not just not throwing a game away, but time of possession, as well as forcing the opposing offense to be one dimensional.

Not as much as you think. It's not throwing interceptions or fumbles in the playoffs that really matter. But......

Big Ben, first Super Bowl, was 21st, 2nd he was 14th
Wilson, 16th
Flacco, 14th
Johnson 17th
Dilfer, 34th, but he only played 8 games in the regular season.
Brady 1st game was 22nd

You don't need an elite QB, just a good one that doesn't screw up to much.
