NFL players must adjust to new padding requirements

Post by dead_poet »

From a familiar source.

"If we have a player that somehow wants to buck the system, so to speak, and slips through the cracks, and he is on the field," Hanks said, "at that point, we will notify the sideline team designee, (and) we will notify the back judge of the officials group to give this young man an opportunity to make the adjustment. And if he refuses, he will be removed from the game."

That doesn't mean an ejection. The player simply leave the field and make the proper adjustments before he's allowed to return, just as he would if he tried to enter the game without a helmet or shoulder pads.
“Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.” --- Bill Shankly

Before following the link, I'm going to assume that source is Tom Pelissero. :)

Edit: It was a safe assumption. Thanks for the link. That was a pretty interesting read. I wonder if we'll actually see a player get pulled from a game this year for not abiding by this rule.
