 Retiring Players Thread
Just thought I'd keep track of NFL players that are retiring/retired. I'll do my best to keep this updated but feel free to post any new reports or rumors as they come or if I've missed someone.
Al Harris Olin Kreutz Jason Taylor Derrick Mason Jim Kleinsasser Jon Kitna
LaDainian Tomlinson [Contemplating] Jeff Saturday [Contemplating] Hines Ward [Rumored] Steve Hutchinson [Rumored] Matt Birk [Rumored]

 Re: Retiring Players Thread
Went to high school with Olin Kreutz. He's only two years older than me and he's already retired....
Meanwhile I'm probably looking at another 30+ years of work.

 Re: Retiring Players Thread
what was Olin's deal? Didn't he just quit the saints after a few games?

Per Schefter: Quote: One of the great runs in the NFL has come to an end: Ravens running back Ricky Williams plans to retire.

 Re: Retiring Players Thread
If Hutchinson retires it would be a big relief for the Vikings. It won't make them any better, but it would keep them from being in a position of either releasing him, badly overpaying him, or trying to get him to renegotiate his contract. It always strikes me as a little ugly for both parties when a guy at the end of his career is forced to take a pay cut. The team looks ungrateful and the guy looks like he's holding on too long to his flagging career.
Another thing it would do is force the Vikings to get serious about overhauling their horrible offensive line. They can't keep relying on a fading Hutchinson, can't keep trying to get another full season out of the oft-injured Herrera, and cannot keep hoping that Loadholt will magically get better. They need to do something NOW, even if their hand has to be forced.

 Re: Retiring Players Thread
Sad news but obviously for the best.
Kris Dielman - G - Chargers
Chargers LG Kris Dielman (concussions) made his retirement official on Thursday.
In an emotional press conference, the four-time Pro Bowler made it clear that retirement is "what I have to do, not what I want to do." Chargers OL Hal Hunter told Dielman, "You're not my son, but if you were, there ain't no way I'd you back on that field." Dielman's retirement leaves the Chargers with vacancies at center and on the entire left side of the offensive line.
