 NFL Power Rankings 2012
Yes, Power Rankings don't mean anything but still are sort of interesting to look at as a gauge as to how teams are doing. For week #6: The Vikings have gone from being around #28 after the loss to the Colts to steadily moving up and are now #8 at CBS Sports http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/2052 ... t-playoffsPer CBS, with our Division: #6 Bears #8 Vikings #16 Packers #23 Lions Seems to be a lot of good teams this year. #19 Redskins , next opponent. This poll is generous and has the Vikings at #5. http://newyork.sbnation.com/2012/10/9/3 ... 012-week-6Quote: 5. Minnesota Vikings (LW: 6, 4-1) - Still the only team in five weeks to handle the Niners. Next up: at No. 23 Redskins I will update if other power rankings come in. Still fun to look at.

 Re: NFL Power Rankings 2012
Thanks Mothman, HibbingVikings, CanadaViking08 and VikeinMontana. I use to look at an NHL power rankings table where they had all of the major news services displayed. Probably best to just have all the undefeateds as 1 and 2, Houston and Atlanta like CBS did although, it's hard to think the Niners are anything less than 3rd really. The NFC West now with the Niners but also Rams, Cards, Seahawks is no pushover like they were a few years ago. There is a lot of parity this year, underdogs are covering the spreads like the Chiefs vs. the Ravens Sunday and the Jets vs. Texans last night. Not to take away from the Texans but I don't think they've defeated a winning team yet.

The Vikings being 4-1 and New Orleans 1-4 is parity.

 Re: NFL Power Rankings 2012
I know they are subjective by nature, but I have to ask how Cleveland (who has no wins) gained ground (moved up from 32 to 31 in the CBS rankings) when they still haven't beaten anyone? Jacksonville's last game was brutal, but they were playing the Bears. Cleveland gave up as many points but were playing the Giants. I dunno - I think I'd have left them at 32 being the only winless team in football until they actually beat someone.

Not who has a better record, who could beat who today. Would you take Cleveland who led the Giants 14-0 or the Jags who had their doors blown off by Da Bears? Would you take Weeden looking shockingly competent or Gabbert looking like a fool?

I'm not sure that I'd take Cleveland over Jacksonville at this point. (That may well have been Cleveland's best game all season)

I'm not sure that I'd take Cleveland over Jacksonville at this point. (That may well have been Cleveland's best game all season) Let's see, Cleveland, have scored 100 points this season, 139 scored against them. Jacksonville, 65 points for, 138 points against. Browns, lost to Eagles by 1, at Bengals by 7, to Bills by 10, to Ravens by 7, to Giants by 14. So they are losing their games by an average of around 7 and a half. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page ... and-brownsJacksonville lost bad to the Bears and that's one game only, Lost to Bears by 38, to Vikes by 3, to Houston by 20, beat Colts by 5 and lost to Cincy by 17. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page ... le-jaguarsSo, it's a mixed bag, I can see that. A good case could be made for the Browns being better though it's no sure thing. They are probably pretty equal and as we can't forget, Colts beat Vikings but Jacksonville defeated the Colts while we barely edged the Jags in OT. Cleveland's division has Ravens, Steelers and Cincy. Jax in there with Texans, Indy and the Titans.

 Re: NFL Power Rankings 2012
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/2057 ... ey-keep-itI guess the Bears had a bye weekend, they and the Ravens have one loss. 1. Falcons 2. Ravens 3. Bears 4.Texans 5. Giants 6. Fortyniners 7. Seahawks <---- They've scooted right up there. 8. Patriots 9. Packers 10. Broncos (what a show they put on in the 2nd half) 11. Vikings12. Cardinals 13. Steelers 14. Eagles 15. Dolphins 16. Rams 17. Chargers 18. Bengals. 19. Cowboys 20. Redskins (probably better than that too) 21. Bills 22. Lions 23. Jets 24. Bucs 25. Saints 26. Colts 27. Titans 28. Browns ... they won over Cincy, right? 29. Raiders 30. Chiefs 31. Panthers. 32. Jaguars --------- So really, even the Chiefs and Jags have had moments this year. I guess more or less, these rankings look correct. Lions sure look done though their points for is 126, points against 137. I think the rankings are largely based on win/loss records because some of these teams have suffered some horrendous losses as the Niners did and the Bears are routing about everyone they play.

 Re: NFL Power Rankings 2012
Okay, after seeing how the decent, but overrated 49ers are still ranked really high, despite being smoked in 2 of 4 games, the power rankings are kind of a joke. The overrated Packers are too high as well, even though they had a good game last time around. After going through many of the top 15, many of which are 3/3, I realize there are no really outstanding teams. The top 2 are good, but not great, despite only 1 loss between them...just opining.

After all, if not for a botched call by the replacement refs, they'd be 4-2 right now, not 3-3.

 Re: NFL Power Rankings 2012
That one botched GB/Seattle call does not negate the overall game; Seattle is pretty good and beat up on GB relentlessly. Nonetheless, the rankings are sparse regarding accuracy. Then again, they are based on opinion and observation, or what? It can't be by wins and losses.

...wisdom I don't know, who deserves to be ranked over the Niners? Perhaps Seattle and New England but the Patriots are 3-3, In the West, Points for (PF), Points against (PA) Arizona, 4-2, who have lost their last 2, PF 110, PA 97 Seahawks, 4-2, won last 2, PF 110, PA 93 San Francisco, 4-2, PF 152, PA, 94 St. Louis, 3-3, PF 110, PA 111. Mathematically, San Francisco does sit in 3rd place behind the other two. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/standingsStill, it would be good to see how these teams do against each other. And Thursday Night, Seattle at San Francisco. Seattle are 7.5 point underdogs.... but looks like they are getting some picks in the pick 'em thread: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25016It's been a nutty year... and a lot of close games... or at least it seems that way. It would be hard to make rankings and place 3-3 teams ahead of SF.

...wisdom I think it's a mix of both opinion and wins and losses and how the team is doing currently. Look at the Jets, they did real well this past weekend and got stomped the week before. When a team is playing like that, it's hard to place them and actually, there are a number of 3-3 teams out there. Even 2-3 teams like Dallas, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Detroit aren't out of the run in some of these divisions. They obviously have to step it up though. http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/standings-------------- I've long used the CBS sports site, it's good for NCAA basketball and the NFL, as I said, there are a lot of power rankings out there so there is no reason to put emphasis on CBS, I just do it because it's convenient. My home computer is real slow or I'd get the ESPN and everyone's rankings. Thanks for the responses everyone!

Which team would I put ahead in power rankings above the 49ers? How about the Vikes?

...wisdom With the Vikes right behind the Colts and Redskins. I hope the season ends with the Vikings on top for sure. We have always had college polls, so these polls are just something to look at. It's an open year where about anyone can win though the Giants are playing well and Green Bay might be in the running too.
