Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
The NFL should make the team change it's name...Saints just doesn't fit with how dirty they are.
here are some suggested names: Scum, Trash, Low Lifes, Scoundrels, Cons, Bastards

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
NFL suspended Saints MLB Jonathan Vilma for the entire season for his role in the bounty scandal.
The NFL's investigation concluded that Vilma, as captain of the defense, aided Greg Williams in establishing and funding the bounty program. Vilma's suspension will kick in immediately while Packers DE Anthony Hargrove (8 games), Saints DE Will Smith (4 games), and Browns LB Scott Fujita (3 games) are allowed to participate in OTAs and preseason action.

Players, NFL disagree on context of bounty email Quote: Ornstein's email is just another example of the speciousness of the quote-unquote evidence that Commissioner (Roger) Goodell claims to have to support his erroneous accusations against Jonathan and the other players," lawyer Peter Ginsberg said. "As more of the evidence is revealed in the media, it is becoming more and more apparent how irresponsible the NFL's actions have been More info in the USA Today Article

Let's bring on the lawyer talk and get these animals off!
Hope the NFL doesn't budge an inch. It was clear at the time, and it's clear now exactly what they were doing. The idea the NFL needs what, phone recordings of specific bounties being placed? what a joke.

The idea the NFL needs what, phone recordings of specific bounties being placed? what a joke. I think the mere fact they are getting e-mails from a prison inmate says alot. I just find it amazing that lawyers can assert things like this with a straight face. Later in the article it says: Quote: The NFL has suspended Williams indefinitely. Williams, now with St. Louis, has apologized publicly for running a pay-for-performance program that he knew was wrong. (Added emphasis was mine) - I suppose the lawyers will assert Williams is lying/was intimidated by the NFL or some other such nonsense....

Vilma suing goodell! WOW! I could see this backfiring. The NFL isn't a court of law, so it's not required to present all evidence it has. It's quite possible that the league has a mountain of evidence against Vilma that would come out in a court case.

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
That's what I was thinking. If they do have the evidence and reveal it publicly, Vilma is going to look worse than he already does. As seen with some other issues, the constant lying can get people more pissed off then the actual issue.

I would hope this is the case, but there is a huge lack of due process in all of this (yes I get it doesn't apply here). Goodel is the investigator, judge and jury here. Heaven forbid he made a mistake. I'm going to assume he wouldnt make this up (as it would be incredibly stupid to do), but I have a tougher time believing that he made no mistakes on this. The problem is that the evidence needs to come out, and I suspect they are hiding this because of "integrity of the game issues." It's the same reason (I'm guessing) as to why all of the spygate evidence was destroyed... The fans would be upset knowing the Patriots cheated during the superbowl, especially in the games that were won by close margins.

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
Report: Saints kept bounty ledgerQuote: The NFL has a copy of a ledger detailing weekly earnings for players in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, according to a Yahoo! Sports report.
Yahoo! Sports, citing two sources with knowledge of the NFL's evidence, reports the ledger showed payments of $1,000 for cart-offs, $400 for whacks -- also known as hard hits -- and $100 deductions for mental errors. According to the report, Saints players were told on a week-by-week basis of their performance. Just when you think these morons couldn't get any stupider. The entire team shuold be banned for the upcoming season. I hope another hurricane destroys the Superdome and the entire city.

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
Hard to not be a little bitter about this ... Brett Favre 'bounty' pledges exists in league's evidenceQuote: The page is titled "Minny Game $$ QB [illegible] Out." It shows pledges from Jonathan Vilma ($10,000), assistant head Coach Joe Vitt ($5,000) and linebacker Scott Fujita ($2,000) and "Smith" -- among others under "QB Pool" or "General Pool." Another Column is tagged "DB" and it shows players like cornerback Jabari Greer, safety Roman Harper and former Saints Darren Sharper and Tracey Porter pleading thousands of dollars for "Pick 6."

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
PurpleMustReign wrote: They better not. That would really upset me. That will show that it is ok to cheat. The reason they might get an injunction is that the penalty is very time sensitive (ie football careers are short), so if the NFL loses the case, Vilma will have been irreparably harmed by the suspension. Since a trial won't possible happen before the season starts, if the judge thinks there is merit to Vilma's claim, she has to issue an injunction. This is the same reason that Kevin and Pat Williams were allowed to play for a couple years while the Starcaps thing worked its way through the courts. Note that the NFL did not respond with any evidence against Vilma and instead used a jurisdictional argument that Vilma doesn't have the right to sue under the CBA. As others have said, if Vilma wins this round and gets an injunction and then a trial, he sure as hell better be right, because if the league's evidence shows he did contribute the money, he has now lied under oath, which is way more serious than any bounty.

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
Jonathan Vilma - LB - Saints The NFL has offered to reduce Saints MLB Jonathan Vilma's year-long suspension to eight games as part of a settlement.
The league, NFLPA, and attorneys for the four suspended Bounty Scandal players have held ongoing settlement talks. To get his suspension cut in half, Vilma would have to drop his defamation of character civil suit against commissioner Roger Goodell. With another court appearance scheduled for Friday, there could be a resolution as soon as this week. Vilma's possible reduction could lead to shorter suspensions for Saints DE Will Smith (four games), Packers DT Anthony Hargrove (eight games), and Browns LB Scott Fujita (three games). Vilma has undergone three left knee surgeries since November, so there's still no guarantee he'd be available to play in 2012.

Re: Saints investigated for "Bounty Program"
In a stunning development, players suspended for their roles in the Saints' 2009-2011 Bounty Scandal have had their bans overturned on appeal.
Perhaps the most notable suspension lifted is RE Will Smith's. The Saints' best pass rusher will be able to start Sunday against the Redskins. Browns SLB Scott Fujita and Saints MLB Jonathan Vilma, among others, are now eligible to play football. Vilma has been away from the Saints rehabbing from knee surgeries, so it's unclear how much time he'll need to get back into the swing of things. Smith's return will make life quite a bit more difficult on Redskins rookie Robert Griffin III. Coaches Sean Payton and Joe Vitt, and GM Mickey Loomis' suspensions will remain intact. Related: Scott Fujita, Jonathan Vilma Source: Adam Schefter on Twitter Sep 7 - 3:35 PM
