 Re: Junior Seau Dead
Looking like a suicide ... apparently him driving off of a cliff a while back wasn't just an accident. Very sad.

 Re: Junior Seau Dead
This is terrible. Did he have concussions while he was playing? I wonder if that affected him somehow? Wow, I can't believe he conitted suicide.
RIP.

 Junior Seau Dead
Shefter reported he was never listed with a concussion on the injury report, but that doesn't mean he didn't sustain them.

Definitely a day that makes me question watching this sport I love. I hope it's not concussion related.

 Re: Junior Seau Dead
My condolences go out to Junior's family, especially his mom. No parent wants to have to bury their child. But in saying all of that, I'm sorry but this was a selfish and cowardly act by Junior. Not only does he leave behind a grieving mother, but he also leaves 3 children without a father. I believe that he took the cowards way out of whatever he was going through and an act like taking your own life is not rewarded with "resting in peace"...

Rest in peace, his family are in my thoughts. -----
Seau really is or was, however you look at it, such a big name, close to or was a household name, it is tragic when this happens to anyone but given his being so well known, it does make me wonder.

 Re: Junior Seau Dead
So sad when I heard the news. Loved watching him play, and a classy guy on the field to boot. This is a violent game, and if the stories bear out and chronic brain trauma issues are playing a part in this, as with Dave Duerson, there will probably be some serious ramifications. When two or more guys are playing full speed and hitting with the equivalent of 100+ Gs of force, something has to give...

You can never truly understand what is going on in the mind of a suicidal person. Logic and reason don't really apply. From our own perspectives it doesn't make sense, but on some level it made sense to Seau (even if he realized it was wrong). I'm definitely not condoning it, but I don't consider ending your own life cowardly. It takes some serious guts to turn a gun on yourself, especially considering that he shot himself in the chest (which can be a slow agonizing death) rather than the head. That fact tells me that he did it because he saw himself as a hopeless case and wanted to preserve his brain for concussion study. Maybe he saw it as a way to help future NFL players? We'll never know. Ugh, nasty topic. Takes the mind to some dark places.

See, this is the thing and why people are wondering if it could be something wrong with the brain and some footballers and others end up killing themselves.

Football players know the rules of engagement and know of the dangers of what is for all intents and purposes a collision sport; so forgive my lack of sympathy. Even the Dave Duerson case has no sympathy for me either. Investigators called that case "the most organized suicide" that they ever saw. There were notes and charts and all sorts of information they found at his place. I had a friend from high school commit suicide, and trust me I didn't go to his funeral after understanding why he did(couldn't find a job apparently)...

You don't know his personal situation however. I don't condone suicide but i don't think people can really understand the situation until there in that situation themselves. That's me included as well. I doubt Tarnishing football is fair to blame him with, he was obv going through some #### that we will never know about. I don't think selfishness comes into it. Sad, he was a great player and seemed like a great guy. Imo this does show something I mean suicides are really on the rise and its quite shocking to see some. People leaving familys etc behind, I can't even imagine what it must be like to be in that situation. It's a sad state of affairs, mental health is something I feel personally is a taboo most people don't want to talk about and its the one illness where the best thing to do is talk about it.

You've never been in that situation. Before you say something like that, live in their shoes. You obviously don't understand what it is like to have a mental illness. I almost lost a friend to suicide (it was an attempt that thankfully failed), and it brought a whole new perspective for me about someone with any mental disease (and any other disease really). To that person their brain isn't working correctly. They can't control it. Your response is akin to telling Mohamed Ali to stop shaking. You don't know what it's like.

 Re: Junior Seau Dead
imagine yourself in a deep bit with cold sandy walls .. you try and pull yourself out ..
you know you will starve or die of thirst if you don't get out soon.
The more you try to pull yourself out .. the more the sand comes down on you ...
that's is what depression is like
