So...this one didn't go very well. Two keepers. Ended up keeping Foster & Julio (PPR). I drafted last because I won last year. So I've been mocking 10-team drafts, because I thought that's what we were doing. Nope. Ended up being a 12-team league, which I was totally unprepared for. Then there was only 13 rounds with 4 bench spots (I was told there'd be more). On top of that, it's an NFL.com league and the interface is f-ed up. I ended up panicing and screwing up my first couple of picks at the bottom of the third round and top of the fourth. Here's how it turned out. I'm not entirely pleased.

QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Doug Martin
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Brandon Marshall
TE: Finley (f-ed me last season and he'll probably do it again. This is where confusion on nfl.com got me. Should've had Gates or Hernandez. Whatever).
Flex (TE/RB/WR): Garcon
K: Gould
Def: Jets (others out there: Buffalo, Cincy, Seattle, Dallas, Atlanta, Washington, Denver).

Bench:

RGIII
Ben Tate
Peyton Hillis
Justin Blackmon

Notable free agents: Jaquizz Rodgers (I have a feeling he may replace Tuner sooner rather than later), HIghtower, Royster, Denarius Moore, LaFell, Sidney Rice, Cobb, Hankerson, Brian Quick, Kendall Wright, Greg Olson, Kyle Rudolph

---

Overall I think I'm okay. My TE and bench is weak, but has potential and is safe. I'm predicting/praying for a BIG year out of Matt Ryan but have potential scoring machine RGIII there just in case he pulls a Cam Newton. I'm placing a lot on the unknown rookie Martin, but he's looking like the bell cow for a run-first team and looks solid (too bad they just lost one of the best guards in the league). I think I have to keep Tate as a handcuff, even though I'm not thrilled about wasting a bench spot. WIth as much as Bradshaw seems to get injured, Wilson seemed to be a nice flier. He's shown good things this preseason. Blackmon's stock has been rising considerably after he finally reported and is getting targeted a ton by Gabbert. Could I strike gold again after taking a late-round flier for A.J. Green last season?

Thoughts?

I agree that your TE is a bit weak but Rudolph might come through for you. I picked him up at the end of my draft too. Always got to get at least one homer pick in but I also really think he's going to be a big part of the Vikings offense. Though I'm not sure exactly how much "a big part of the Vikings offense" is worth in fantasy terms lol

However, even then your TE isn't really *that* weak. He put up 8 TDs last year ... he had very respectable numbers considering the TE slot doesn't put up a lot of numbers for most teams.

I think for a 12 team league your RB situation is strong but I hate to start a rookie out of the gate. However, in a 12 team league you generally have to hit on players in later rounds and a rookie might be a good bet for that.

You might strike gold on Blackmon but he might be off your team by week 4-5. I kind of look at his chances as if he were drafted by the Vikings. They're in somewhat similar situations and in either case the QB situation is questionable.

Your QB, #1 RB, and WRs are particularly strong. In a 12 team league I think you've got a pretty strong team.

That's for sure. But I don't have him. He's on the list of notable free agents but I left him out there due to needing "handcuff" Ben Tate and having what I think is too shallow of a bench. We can play a TE in the flex position. Right now my flex is Garcon. I'm not entirely sure Rudolph can out-produce him. Think I should drop, say, Wilson in favor of Rudolph? I'm Inclined to say no, because I should be able to scoop him up if he starts the year hot. The other problem with a shallow bench is the difficulty of engaging in trades.

True. But I think the difference between Finley and Graham, Gronk and Hernandez is significant. I'll be entering those matchups at a disadvantage. Plus, he had a pretty disappointing year last season and I haven't heard a lot of positive things from him this offseason (not to mention he's like the third or fourth option for Rodgers). I guess I'm just really nervous about him, especially after he didn't live up to his position last season.

I know. It makes me nervous too. But he's reportedly looked good and is a three-down #1 RB on a run-first team that has a strong offensive line. Going by that, I should be able to count on him for solid RB2 numbers with upside for low RB1. That's the way I'm choosing to look at it anyway!

True. I'm counting on him doing for Gabbart what A.J. Green did for Dalton (though realistically to a lesser degree). It seems as though as soon as Blackmon was installed Gabbert looked better and the guy is the obvious first read in their quick-hit attack (which plays to his strengths as he is a YAC monster a lot Boldin of old). I think he could be a target monster and this is a PPR league, which helps. I played the upside. He's certainly looked good so far. In roughly five preseason quarters he has eight receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Your QB, #1 RB, and WRs are particularly strong. In a 12 team league I think you've got a pretty strong team.
QB I'm counting on one of Ryan and RGIII to have a great year to help me keep up with the Bradys, Brees, Stafford, Newtons that I'll be facing. I think Ryan and the weapons he has around him, coupled by the new arial attack they're moving to has great potential. If true and Julio is the focal point everybody is predicting he'll be in his second year I'll be the beneficiary of both!

The real test is tonight's draft. Money league.

Picked up Hillis after a guy dropped him in favor of one-hit-wonder (for now) Kevin Ogletree. Dropped David Wilson. Figure it's not much of a gain but Hillis should get more touches than Wilson behind a better offensive line (barring injury). And I like Hillis as a feature back should something happen to Jamaal Charles.

Updated roster. I better not lose anymore. As of week 4 I'm 1-2 all thanks to Garcon and inserting weak flex replacements. Martin and Marshall have been underwhelming too.

QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Ryan Mathews
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Brandon Marshall
Flex: Doug Martin
Defense: Cardinals
K: Hartley

Bench:

Garcon, Ben Tate, Ryan Williams, Andre Brown. I'll probably drop Brown for Kenny Britt.

Update

With a win in week 5 (Foster hasn't played yet but I already won), I'm currently 2-3.

QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Ryan Mathews
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Brandon Marshall
TE: Pettigrew
Flex: Doug Martin
Defense: Steelers
K: Hanson

Bench:

Nicks, Garcon, Hartline, Finley.

Update: Now 4-4. Third place and clawing my way back (leaders are 6-2). Current leader in points. Updated team:

QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Ryan Matthews
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Brandon Marshall
TE: Pettigrew
Flex: Doug Martin
K: Hanson
Def: Denver

Bench:

R. Jennings, Nicks, Amendola, Hernandez

Some idiot dropped Hernandez (I was trying to trade for him). After his bye I'll be very happy with the team from top to bottom (other than defense). Might drop Jennings for Stewart, but I'm undecided on that one. Will jump on it if some team trades for Williams.

Heh. It's evolved a bit. Garcon's injury coupled with a terrible TE (and a couple games where everybody crapped the bed) dug me into an early season hole. I'm hoping I can turn things around. Only kick in the pants is I think I got the raw end of a trade (sent RGIII for Ryan Matthews). Can't believe Turner isn't keeping Matthews on the field for third downs. Luckily Ryan is playing lights out this season as I hoped he would.

Coming on strong. 144 points this week and I would've beaten everyone in our league for the third straight week. Still 3/4 in our division with a 6-4 record (sounds familiar) but now have increased point total to 1,293 (next closest is 1,211). And top two guys in my division are playing each other. One is 8-2, other is 7-3. If I can win this one, I might be able to finally climb to the #2 spot.

Minor tweak. Some guy dropped Steve Smith (Carolina). Mostly playing defense by picking him up at the expense of Rashad Jennings, who hasn't done anything, is going up against Houston and expects MJD back in a couple of weeks. I can afford to make the move even if I'm not planning on playing him over my other guys. How things sit today:

QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Doug Martin
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Brandon Marshall
TE: Hernandez
Flex: Ryan Matthews
K: Hanson
Def: Denver

Bench:

Steve Smith, Nicks, Amendola, Pettigrew (insurance in case Hernandez is out AGAIN)

Another victory vs. the #1 guy in the division coupled with a loss of the former #2 puts me at 8-5 and tied for second place with one week to go before the playoffs. Still league points leader now 140 points ahead of next closest guy. Last week before playoffs. I have the toughest matchup of the three of us vs. the guy I foolishly traded RGIII for Ryan Mathews (really kicking myself for that one these days as RGIII has more points than my QB Matt Ryan as Mathews rides my bench). Will be a horrible way to end the season to lose to him and get knocked out of the playoffs. I'm pretty sure if I win, I'm in. Split head-to-head with the guy I'm tied with and lead him in points by over 300. What are my chances?

Current roster:

QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Arian Foster
RB: Doug Martin
WR: Julio Jones
WR: Brandon Marshall
TE: Hernandez
Flex: Hakeem Nicks
K: Hanson
Def: Denver

Bench:

Ryan Mathews, Steve Smith, Danny Amendola, Pierre Garcon

vs.

QB: RGIII
RB: Chris Johnson
RB: Michael Bush
WR: Dez Bryant
WR: Colston
TE: Witten
Flex: Santana Moss
K: Medlock
Def: Jets

Bench:

Romo, James Jones, Dustin Keller, Daniel Thomas

Your team is STACKED. You should run away with the championship barring some really bad circumstances.

Eh. I've lost 5 games this season. There have been multiple weeks my guys decide to collectively crap the bed (usually you have at least a couple guys to help pick up the slack). I just have a bad feeling about this week. It would just be my luck the guy I traded RGIII knocks me out of the playoffs. Both Foster and Martin have slowed down considerably in recent weeks too. Looking back at my draft, I've mainly just improved my TE and bench while weakening my QB. I'm satisfied with how my roster shaped up, but it could've been better.

Flex question: NIcks, Steve Smith or Garcon?

After a 156-110 victory I claimed tied for first in the hardest division (three teams went 9-5). Ended up being the leading points scorer (1,767) by over 200. The best part? The first place guy LOST to the winless/bum guy that's essentially a bye – by 13. Bye dude had three inactive players and still won (46 points from Seattle defense). Ha!

I honestly don't see how I'm not in first place and #1 seed (somehow I'm the #4 seed). Same record as the two other guys in my division, split the head-to-head matchups and I scored more total points. But it doesn't matter.

Rematch against the guy I beat 134.90-73.68 in Week 7. His studs are Rodgers, Jamaal Charles, Lynch and Demaryius Thomas.

WTF?

The dude I'm playing started Andy Dalton over Aaron Rodgers. Scored a respectable 14.75 points but that's still an interesting (potentially stupid) move.
