Post Where Will You Draft Dalvin Cook in your league?
I pessimistically have Cook as my 3rd overall rookie RB and my 12th overall RB for the 2017 fantasy season (full RB rankings coming out soon on SSF, check the sig). He might might get off to a slow start as we grow into our revamped run-game.

He has wild upside though. By the time fantasy playoffs come around I think he could be one of the top weekly-scorers if he becomes a work-horse in our crowded back field.

As far as dynasty goes, I play RSO (deal with contracts and salary caps, full GM mode). I traded Melvin Gordon to move up to the #1 rookie draft spot. Feel great about locking him in for 3 years on a cheap salary. SKOL.

Where are (not would) you guys gonna grab him? Also, I haven't done my valuations for auction leagues yet, how much would you bid on him, if that's how you roll?

I'd pick him up in round 6 or 7 depending who was there. I'd grab my QB, RBs, and WRs first. I'd pull the trigger on him before TE/K/D if he were still there or if I ended up having to draft my second RB later but I try not to do that.

I'll have a hard time drafting a Vikings RB until I see significant improvement in the offensive line. The unfortunate truth is that the Vikings have one of the worst offenses in football and it's hard to count on anyone on the roster to be a steady fantasy factor. At least yet.

I only play the normal fantasy football so I can't weigh in on your other stuff.

With the draft and cap resources dedicated to the run, this offseason, I truly think they are going to be in the top 10 as far as rushing attempts. The line is built to run block, and they believe if they dedicate themselves to the run that there will be less pressure on Sammy. Plus defensive coaches really value giving their favourite side some time to rest on the side line.

Expecting a total overhaul of offensive game plan from last year.

6 round sounds about right for standard scoring though. Dalvin has still gotta climb up the depth chart.

I only play regular fantasy football right now. My main hesitation with Cook would be that I don't feel you would get much out of him for at least half the season. Even if Cook wows everyone, the Vikings have been pretty slow giving rookies many reps. I feel that Murray is the starter and Cook will have to work in, and even then, will be splitting carries.

I wouldn't draft him.

There's no way to know when he'll get snaps. And even if he does, in Shurmur's silly offense, will it matter?

Can't blame the skepticism haha! Treadwell burned be pretty hard last year.

Speaking of; I went back and watched sine of Treadwell's college tape in comparison to some of the tape study I did on this year's WR class. Even after his major injury, he started to show some solid speed off-the-line and had knack for finding soft spot in zones. Granted, his top end speed was never good lol but he's got Boldin-esque size. I got faith he'll develop into at least a solid #2 (in real life, not fantasy).

Not knowing when he'll get snaps is one of the issues but I don't think Shurmur's offense should decrease snaps in the running game. At least he's proven he'll use the talent if he has it;

2009 - 2010 OC for STL - 3rd most RB attempts, 2nd most yards in the league (S. Jackson)
2013 - 2014 OC for PHI - 1st overal in yards and attempts (McCoy)
2014 - 2015 OC for PHI - 2nd in attempts 3rd overall yards (McCoy)

I'm not sure the cap resources dedicated to the run necessarily reflect performance. If memory serves the Vikings had the most expensive offensive line in football last year. As a Vikings fan of course I'll be cheering for the offense to get better. As someone making fantasy football picks I tend to avoid the Vikings even if I think they'll play well. I can't trust my purple shades :cheer:

Agreed, the performance isn't innately improved by spending. But, I believe the carries will drastically increase, based on the perceived run-blocking acumen (at least compared to their pass-blocking ability) of the two new tackles and the run blocking Elflein. Plus, we have enough bodies in the backfield to pound the rock as much as we want. How much we "want", like you implied, probably depends on the efficiency of how they perform.

We did have one of the most expensive lines last year. I believe about 30% of our cap was on IR last year as well though haha.

My purple shades never come off, I'm thinking Cook has a chance for a great second half rookie year. Even if the run-blocking struggles, he is a receiving threat out of the backfield.

Really depends on if it's a 10-, 12-, or 14-man league but he's a guy you take a flier on late. I'd be more inclined to take a flier on him or Mixon over Fournette to be honest. It also depends on how the board shakes out, I mean how far could AD potentially fall?

I'm not a Fournette fan. Seems like the LaRon Landry of running backs, a big athlete that has enough speed to stand out in college. This won't translate against legitimate defenses, Fournette could rarely break a tackle before he his full speed. Take a look at Fournette's last 2 games against Alabama, he was held to 66 yards on 36 carries. Around 7 offensive linemen had a better vertical jump than him in this draft... Not that vert is THAT important, but come on.

That being said, he is going to get fed carries to justify how high he went in the draft. He also gets to play the Jags' cupcake schedule. He may be a top 12 fantasy pick based off projected carries alone.

AD is probably going to go near undrafted in many leagues. Depending how big bench is, I guess. Not the ideal fit for that offense.

Ey boys! Got my fantasy RB rankings up on the website. Let me know what you think. Sidestream Football RB Rankings. By the sounds of it, everyone may think Dalvin is too high haha. Remember these will be adjusted a few times before Week 1, so give me your insight!

Love the optimism, but I'd be very surprised if Cook does more than split time with Murray. Especially early in the season. Also, it's hard to trust that the O-line has greatly improved yet. On paper they've improved. I think Murray will get the bulk of the carries early in the year anyway. I hope you're right though, and Cook is great out of the gate.

I think he's a very good pick in a Dynasty league. For re-draft leagues, I think it's too big of a gamble that early. I'd like to have him, but I'm in a league with a few other homers who will draft him too high.

D.Murray seems low on your list. Also, I'll bet Lacey does pretty well in Seattle. It's crazy too see AP so low on the list, but I don't really disagree.

Very sound Cook logic.

I have faith in the composure of the offensive line, it's truly built to help the run game. I could see a world where Cook has 1000-1500 (I know, big discrepancy) all-purpose yards.... Will re-evaluate before the season starts. Maybe he'll go higher :p

AP went to the least compatible scheme possible. The Saints run out of shotgun a ton. I think he should usurp Ingram's touches, especially in the red-zone. But Kamara was built for that offense, and Brees will opt for the RB that can pad his passing numbers. AP could end with 900-1000 yards and 7-9 TDs though. If the phase out Ingram.

The problem I have with Murray is mainly that he is not the best RB on his team. I elaborate in SSF RBs to Avoid. Plus, he's due for an injury.

Lacy is a big body that will not be getting big holes with Seattle's offensive line haha. It wouldn't surprise me if he put together an OK season, mainly through receptions, but there are some other talented backs on that team too.
