Vikings could continue to stockpile pass-rushers in draft

If there's any spot on the Minnesota Vikings' defense that wouldn't seem to need much attention a month from now in the NFL draft, it'd be defensive end. Everson Griffen, who is coming off back-to-back double-digit sack seasons and a trip to the Pro Bowl, doesn't turn 29 until December. Danielle Hunter -- the 6-foot-6 dynamo who recorded six sacks as a rookie -- is only 21.

Brian Robison had five sacks at age 32 last season. The Vikings brought back Justin Trattou to see if he can build on the flashes he's shown and they still have 24-year-old Scott Crichton, a third-round pick in 2014 who's looking to turn a corner in his third year.

And yet, it would be wholly within the Vikings' draft strategy -- and very much in keeping with their approach to roster construction -- to spend another pick next month on an athletic pass-rusher.

I think it makes sense. There is some serious talent at the position this year too. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they go Dline with #23.

I'm completely ok with going DE or another defensive position for a few of our early round picks. One way to make our offense better is to make our defense the best in the league. How great would that be if WE could boast the best defense...not Seattle, not Carolina, but us. Is the offensive line or wide receiver core perfect? Not by any means, but they're not bad either. Maybe I'm getting greedy wanting our already-really good defense to get better. But I don't care-let's shoot for being a nasty defense.
RD1 BPA on defense
RD2 BPA WR/OL
RD3 BPA on defense
RD4 BPA WR/OL
RD5 BPA defense

I could see them getting some run defenders before stockpiling Dline/LB's. I think this is the way they go, they will address the Oline and maybe a WR later in the draft. Zimmer wants this team to be a defensive monster. But thats not going to help Teddy much. I would do the opposite. I would go Oline and a WR to start, and finish with defensive players. Except Billings. Hes going to be hard to pass up if he is there.

I could see us getting a DT at 23 especially if there is a total run stopper there

what about RB? I mean AD is a beast and all but, he's 31 and while I think he probably has 2-3 good years left in him, I think that drafting a nice young back that can take the load off AD. I like Asiata and McKinnon but they aren't going to be the kind of guys you eventually can depend on to carry the ball 25-30 times a game. The front office would know what we have in those guys better than I, but just a thought.

Depends on who is there. I think it's a year early to take a RB and next year's class should be pretty good. But there are some solid names that should be available on day 3.

Anybody know if my guy Drew Ott is signed anywhere? I can't see that he has and to be an UDFA at this point would be a little surprising.
