Well buddy I feel for ya and understand. Let me tell u about me and we will make a pact to hang on to see them win the Big one someday.
I just turned 54 this past Oct. When I was 25 I was playing in a softball double header. At the end of 2nd game starting feeling real bad. Tightness in chest ,then neck and jaw. Sweating way more than usual. It was June 26th. Ended up in ER with a bad heart attack. Ended up getting an angioplasty. Had other blockages after that that had to be ballooned also. Then 16 yrs later.. ON June 26th AGAIN.. to boot my daughters birthday, I was finishing up stuff for her b day party that afternoon as the wife and her ran to store to get a few forgotten items. Boom outta no where I collapsed in the yard. Crawled into the house but couldn't get to the phone. They finally got home. Before I knew it I was in a helicopter being life flighted to emergancy surgery. 3 of the largest stents they make are layed right up against each other in main artery. Surgeon said I had prob 5 mins.. 10 mins tops left before I was gone. So every June 26th we all stay close to the hospital lol. I also had a time during another cath my heart stopped for 54 secs and they had to zap me 3 times to get me going again.
So I figure I survived a heart attack at 25 and 41.. and several other uncloggings, so I WILL survive to see the Vikes finally win it. So hang in there brother and just think positive that we r gonna see it happen!!! Stay healthy buddy!!
First, I didn't mean to mislead you, I am a she LOL. The reason I went to ER was because of a pain and high fever, turns out I had Sepsis and pneumonia at the same time...took them a while to figure that out. Then I couldn't leave until they got my heart rate stable it would go fast and slow back and forth and found I had Afib and now with the meds I seem to now have a stable heart rate.
So. WOW you REALLY had some difficulties to live through, SOMEBODY up there LOVED you.
At that rate, you can keep the faith, that's for sure, and now gives me more reason to keep the faith, thank you.

LOL, what can I say. My Mom was the sports fan in my family, and she taught me how to understand how football was played. Her brother was a sports fan too. Anyway, at 16 I got addicted.

Bud Grant here. Born in 64 and was wearing Vikings pjs by time I was walking. I was brought up right. The day that Drew Pearson pushed off on Nate Wright.. the beginning of refs screwing us for me.. on the stupid Hail Mary pass was the 1st time my mom heard her little son drop the F bomb. Thankfully Dad was as mad as me and gave me a pass lol
You know what I remember about that play? Paul Krause prancing over there but not doing anything except whining to the referees. HE WAS RIGHT THERE! But he slows up, then hops over Nate Wright like he doesn't want to get his fingernails dirty. Unbelievable!Separate Pearson from the ball, and history changes in a flash.

Can you imagine if that was Joey Browner? Drew Pearson probably would have ended up in the hospital. Joey would have made a meal out of him. But Paul Krause would never hit anybody.

Ugh.

The 1970 playoff loss to 49ers was the day I became a Viking fan. Bud Grant was the Coach. I remember the Vikes went up 7-0 on a defensive TD but lost 17-14. I still get nervous when we go up 7-0 on a defensive or special teams score.

Golly. I feel relatively young compared to you guys.

I first started understanding football in the early 2000's, so my answer would be Mike Tice by virtue of the Madden and NFL Street games.

When I became a full fledged fan? The hapless and self-harming era of Brad Childress. Except only when Favre finally came over, because I'm a huge Favre fan.

Van Brocklin's last year. 1966 Also the year they traded Tark to the Giants. Grant came in the next year with Kapp for 3 and Cuozzo for 2 before they brought Tark back.

the late Dennis Green. Was a Randy Moss fan coming out of Marshall and when the Vikings drafted him, I became a fan

I was born in 1951 and was 10 years old when the Vikings played their first season. My dad was a big football fan and he got me interested in following the sport. Prior to the Vikings starting up I would cheer for the Colts and Johnny Unitas but when we got our own team I became a fan and have followed them ever since.

I am pretty young yet. I have been a fan since I was five when Denny was the coach. However, I did not become a big-time fan until Tice was coaching his last two years. As much as I want to see the team win for my own selfish reasons, I want them to win for my Dad who is 65 and has been a fan since the late 60s. My Dad will never be the type to know all the players nor would I consider him to be as big of a fan as I am, but I will be damned if he does not get to experience the sheer joy of watching this team finally win the Super Bowl.

Bud Grant, the later years.

Jerry Burns was my favorite though. He sounded like a drunk from any bar in NE MPLS (say, Mayslacks) when he gave pressers. One of my all time favorite videos, one I go to if life is tough and I need a laugh, is Burnsy cussing his way through a press conference. The guy was just so authentic and so upper midwestern. I've lived in far away places for a good chunk of my life. Burnsy is like comfort food that reminds me of home.

Edit to add:
This video's not safe for work, but listen to how he goes to bat for Schnelker, his coordinator. Pretty darn interesting in light of the recent firing of JDF and questions swirling about Zimmer being a player's coach, but maybe not a coordinator's coach.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNcBFZ26lcI
I remember that press conference well! It's classic Burns. He really was a likable guy.
One would think listening to him in that video that the Vikings had lost the game. But that was after a win.
