I'd like to see you ask him that with a straight face. How is Cousins not playing up to his contract right now?

He will. Maybe not this year, but I bet he never finishes this contract before they extend him.808vikingsfan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:10 pm I'd like to see Cousins restructure to free up space.

With $84M, on one player, something has to give. Look at Brady. How many times has he restructured for the betterment of his team.mansquatch wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 1:17 pm I'd like to see you ask him that with a straight face. How is Cousins not playing up to his contract right now?

Re: Thielen is THE MAN
Brady has made like $200M in his career (not to mention countless millions in endorsement deals). He's pretty much set for life. This is Kirk's first big payday. He's not a 10-year vet with multiple Super Bowl rings and just looking for championships. Heck, he took a few million less already to sign here than what the Jets were offering. It wouldn't shock me if he sees every dime. And he probably will. Which will be fine. The cap keeps going up anyway and we have the best cap guy in the business managing it.808vikingsfan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 7:42 pm With $84M, on one player, something has to give. Look at Brady. Re: Thielen is THE MAN
Cousins chose 3 years because he wants to maximize his earnings. I don't really think this is going to happen.ChicagoViking wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 11:40 pmThat would be nice . . . .808vikingsfan wrote: ↑Mon Oct 08, 2018 9:10 pm I'd like to see Cousins restructure to free up space.

By the end of this year Cousins will have made $72 million, and by the end of this contract, $131 million. Not like he's hurting. I will say this,I believe his contract will be restructured and extended before the middle of next year.dead_poet wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 9:02 pmBrady has made like $200M in his career (not to mention countless millions in endorsement deals). Re: Thielen is THE MAN
So a year and a half after choosing to only sign for 3 seasons instead of 5, Cousins is going to take less money per year and extend the contract? Why?Raptorman wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 8:24 pmBy the end of this year Cousins will have made $72 million, and by the end of this contract, $131 million. Not like he's hurting. Re: Thielen is THE MAN
He doesn't have to take less. In the contract you can change how it's paid out over the term of the contract. For example, they can make his base pay into signing bonus which can be pushed out over 5 years. It's done all the time.StumpHunter wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 10:09 amSo a year and a half after choosing to only sign for 3 seasons instead of 5, Cousins is going to take less money per year and extend the contract? Gotcha, I didn’t realize you were just looking to kick the problem further down the road.Raptorman wrote: ↑Wed Nov 07, 2018 9:58 pmHe doesn't have to take less. Even if that is the plan for the Vikings, I still don’t think Cousins bites, unless every year of the extension is fully guaranteed. Probably at 30 million per year as well. That means if you are looking to alleviate 10 million from his 2020 salary and he extends for 2 more years, you are paying him 35 million per in 2021 and 2022. With 2021 ALREADY having 120 million of cap going to only 14 players (none of which is Thielen, Waynes or Cook).
