Preseason Week 4 Post Game Thoughts

Gonna be honest with you guys ... I was starting to fall asleep in my chair around half time

I thought Boone looked really good.

I think Siemian has looked pretty bad in the preseason but it is preseason so maybe like the games themselves, it doesn't really matter. There isn't any controversy about who the backup QB is and I'm not sure how I feel about that lol

Vikings’ Trevor Siemian better, but not as good as Kyle Sloter in 13-3 preseason victory
“I thought (Siemian) played better (than last week),’’ Zimmer said. “It was good to see he had good command in the huddle of the guys.’’

Sloter had played well in each of the first three preseason games, but head coach Mike Zimmer sought to put an end to any potential controversy early this week by saying Siemian is definitely his No. 2 quarterback behind Cousins.

“I think in this league you’re always trying to improve and you’re competing every week,” Siemian said of competing with Sloter. ‘So I think if you’re feeling pretty settled at any position, you’re probably in trouble. For me, I wanted to improve this preseason and I think I’ve done that.”

Zimmer said it’s unfair to compare preseason statistics between Siemian and Sloter. Sloter’s were much better but he often went against third-team players.

“We don’t really look at numbers,’’ Zimmer said. “We look at performance, when they play. We look at practice. We look at everything they’ve done.’’

Regardless, Zimmer said Sloter “did well” in the preseason. He liked on Thursday his communication in the huddle and his clock management.

I was practicing golf until 9. Watched the 4th quarter.

Looks like Brandon Zylstra played pretty well, and Daniel Carlson bounced back. The team also got a long look at guys like Holton Hill. Cut-downs are going to be interesting.

Other than that, I'm glad the preseason is over. Bring on the 49ers!

Wright must be a lock as he didn't play but thought Zylstra looked really good. I'm not liking our "backup" at all. Sloter has looked much better.... experience is only thing holding him back.

I wasn't able to catch the game (out of market), but saw Zimmer's presser. When one of the reporters praised Zylstra, Zimmer was quick to point out that he had also dropped a ball he should have had. Seemed significant. I'm wondering if they're hoping to get him to the PS.

Sounds like Sgt. Sloter impressed under the big lights once again, passing the 'eye test' of casual fans and journalists alike. Zimmer always seems to emphasize odd abilities at which Siemian supposedly excels (and Sloter is deficient): controlling the huddle, getting WRs lined up, etc. etc. I get that those are important, even essential, qualities in your QB, but it feels like it's Zim's way of resisting the persistent annoying questions he is fielding about the fact that Sloter simply looks a lot better than Siemian.

PS anyone have suggestions for out of market viewing of games? I have directv, but I'm hesitant to drop hundreds of dollars for the Sunday Ticket package.

Kind of surprised that Isidora started at center...Heard he looked pretty good. Not sure what that is all about.
Jones got quite a few snaps last night at LG & Center.
When does Elflien have to come off the pup. We still havent heard anything.

Sloter has definitely looked better in pre season games. Not sure what Zimmer is seeing.

Zylstra had a much needed good game last night. And Hill might have wiggled his way on the 53 man roster.

Carlson had a good night kicking...hopefully the yips is gone.

Why didn't Beebe play? Is he hurt? If so, it probably lost him a spot in the team. Other than the top three, we really don't have much depth at WR.
It's going to be a very interesting cut down day.

Either that or he is a lock to make the team.

If he doesn't come off the PUP list before the season starts, he needs to sit out the first 6 weeks before he's eligible to return.

Likely hurt, Beebe didn't practice earlier in the week.

Caught a replay of the game today. Main takeaway: Weatherly dominated. Second to that: Boone is super convincing. I actually think he's a stronger RB than McKinnon was. I think he adds more to our backfield and Zim's praised him for great blitz pick up.
