October 1993.....as far as I can find is the last time a Vikings defense has shut out an opponent.

i think it matters......especially in a one score game in crunch time.

I am trying to keep myself grounded. I felt great after week 1, then i was angry and miserable during the week 2 game as i was slammed back down to earth. Luckily the Packers got destroyed and helped me feel a bit better. This time I am trying to temper my excitement for a few weeks. So far this season is shaping up to be one of the most competitive that i can recall in recent memory. All of the top teams have proven vulnerable and none of the bottom teams (including the Jets) is a for sure or easy win. Our schedule this season does not get any easier, there is no "easy part" to our schedule. If we are going to make the playoffs this year we are going to have to fight for it and earn our spot.

As far as the teams we have beat, neither of them looked very good versus us at home (the same as we didn't look very good against Pittsburgh in their house, the same Pittsburgh that lost to the worst team in our division yesterday, the very same team that the Buccaneers destroyed last week) but last week the Buccaneers had an impressive win and the Saints had an impressive win yesterday on the the road against a division rival.

Case Keenum has a losing career record (10-16) so for him going 1-2 is more likely than him going 2-1, the same can be said for Sam Bradford (33-45-1). On the flip side of that, i think it is agreed that this is the best team that either of these guys have played on in their careers. In our two wins this year each of our quarterbacks have had the best game of their career, it is unrealistic to expect either of them to play at peak performance the rest of the season. I am just hoping that they can play close to their peak most of the time so we at least have a chance to win every game.

It will be very interesting the see how the next few weeks shake out. For now i am going to keep my expectations tempered so that i am not as disappointed as i was last week. But boy were weeks 1 and 3 fun to watch! i was at the week 1 game (as were some other members of this board) and some people i know in person were at the game yesterday (again along with members of the board) and i hope to be celebrating again this time next week. I do expect a much harder fought victory though.

great post^^

as for Case and Sam's losing records...it's interesting to note that the bulk of those losses came at the helm of the Fischer coached Rams teams.

yup, We've gotten shut out by the Packers in 2007 and obviously by the Giants in the 2001 Playoffs. We shut out the the Buccaneers and the Lions in 1993.

It would be fitting for us to end the shut out drought with the Lions...

Agree. Not sure if they would've executed a lot of bootleg passes with Bradford in there.

He did a few last season. But Case is probably better at them.

One name not mentioned is Sendejo, who I think had a pretty good game. He was laying guys out and was also responsible for the Smith interception. He had one bad hit to the TE's(?) head, which I think he'll get fined for but otherwise I thought he had a solid game.

CJ Ham is also looking good. He's solid in blocking and had a nice catch for a 1st down where he broke a couple tackles. Stephen also had a sack where he got good penetration to beat the double team.

I'm interested to see how this offense performs when Floyd comes back. They have two very good weapons, a third would make for a really solid receiving corps.

Keep in mind, Case Keenum lost the first 8 games he started, all with the God-awful 2-14 Houston Texans in 2013.

That means he's 10-8 since then. That includes playing for Jeff Fisher last year.

He's not a bad quarterback. He's got the most passing yards in NCAA history, and he's had some fantastic games as a pro. I'm not saying he's a star, nor do I even think he should be the starter beyond keeping the team afloat until Sam returns. But he's a good player and showed it yesterday.

Go ahead. I dare you.
