Week 1 at home against the Saints by 10 points. I am not gonna wave the white flag on the season just yet!

I hope you are right, Hunter, but I just don't see enough competent performance to be confident.Hunter Morrow wrote:Week 1 at home against the Saints by 10 points. I am not gonna wave the white flag on the season just yet!

New Orleans will be a great test. The defense is going to have to toughen up and revert to playing like they did early last year.

Re: So when is the Vikings first win?
Brian Hoyer made us look like jabronis on the first two drives(9-9, 153 yards, two touchdowns, no sacks) so its easy to see why people would fear Drew Brees. Plus, it seems every time a former Viking plays us they get their revenge and this time the former Viking is Adrian $&@!ing Peterson and we have lousy run D. The nightmare scenario is Peterson clowning us so we sell out to stop Peterson and then Brees demolishes us.
I still like this team at home.

I'm wearing my lucky hat and jersey to the game. It's 2-0 so far.

Lock this up. Boo this man!
Week 1 is W #1. Book it!
I remember the last time they opened up the season against NO though...It was the season after the NFCCG in '09. Saints won and soon Favre's streak ended and the season and Vikings were left to ponder their future existence.

I think we chase the packers again (unless Rodgers
gets hurt) we just haven't fixed our offense enough
and even though we made some good moves our OL
needs time and probably at least one or two players.
I do think Boone was a good move I was happy when
they signed him but he talked better than he played.

Re: So when is the Vikings first win?
I'll say it again, with as much as we have invested in our defense, they are what worries me now. They were exposed last year (in my opinion) and now we've paid a ton of money to lock many of them in for years. And they were really, really bad in the preseason. Idk... I have a really bad feeling about this yes and I rarely get really bad feelings about upcoming years.

The Devil whispered in the Viking's ear, "There's a storm coming." The Viking replied, "I am the storm." #SKOL2018

exposed isn't the right word for them imo. You keep any defense on the field that much last year and they would have been "exposed" What we need is the offense to eat more time and score even a field goal of more points a game.

Re: So when is the Vikings first win?
My take on the defense is this:
What would have have a greater impact on their Points Allowed number in 2017?
Replacing Tom Johnson with Aaron Donald
or
The Vikings Offense averaging 4 more points per game.
IMO, the latter is the correct answer and it isn't even close.
There are certainly questions on defense, but this team had a woefully inadequate rushing attack last season. Even when it got to the 1 yard line it coudn't reliably punch the ball in for TDs. Perhaps the most under reported/appreciated improvement for this squad in 2017 so far has the been the improvement in the rushing game from what we saw in 2016. I think part of is AP hangover. We are used to having an elite rushing attack, to a point where we overlook just how bad it was in 2016 and kind of assume we had our usual greatness in that aspect of the game.
Consider this:
2015 Rushing: 2211 Yards / 18 TD
2015 Passing: 2928 Yards / 14 TD
2016 Rushing: 1205 Yards / 9 TD (!!!!)
2016 Passing: 3836 Yards / 20 TD
Look at both the massive drop off in the rushing attack as well as the improvement in the passing offense. Adding Cook/Murray plus the much improved run blocking OL and we are set to see a season where we might have 4000 yards passing AND 1800+ yards rushing. That will equal less time on the field for the defense and SHOULD equal more scoring. The scoring is the biggest question facing the offense after OL play. They need to score 4-6 more points a game if they want to be a serious contender in the NFC.
