Hopefully he's NOT needed for pinch duty!

Quigley - yes. As for Symmank? Not in the NFL, but probably in college. Cannot say for certain since I didn't watch any Texas Tech games in 2015/16.

So how much does the draft account for?

I think like 5-7. This year since we may not have a 1st rounder, it might be even less for us.

Which is why you don't keep signing other proven scrub backups. Just like Hill, he isn't doing anything meaningful if Bradford goes down. Draft a guy, keep the young guy you have and work with him. Don't just sign other teams castoffs because they can be semi-competent if necessary. It's even more likely they'll pass on some guy in the draft now, because they signed Quarterback X in free agency and by golly he'll give us some solid snaps.

Look around the league. Most NFL backups are what?? Other teams castoffs, with some young guys mixed in. Derek Anderson, Blaine Gabbert, Drew Stanton, Matt Barkley, Matt Moore, Brian Hoyer, Chase Daniel, Josh McCown, Chad Henne, Matt Schaub, Luke McCown, Kellen Clemens, Colt McCoy, Matt Cassel, Brandon Weeden, Case Keenum, Dan Orlovsky, Ryan Mallett, Scott Tolzien....

Thats more than half the league and I could go on. I agree I wouldnt mind drafting a guy but every team out there puts a veteran castoff on their team. This isn't something new. It's not like the Vikings are doing something out of the ordinary. And by the looks of it lately, the only young guys out there that are backups that look like they could possibly start somewhere else are Garappolo and McCarron. Outside of that, the young talent isn't very impressive. Like I said, these guys are backups for a reason and this league has a huge shortage of good QBs. They don't just grow on trees. I would say Keenum is probably one of the better backups out there just because of the recent starting experience and age.
