On to 2017

The Vikings are officially mathematically eliminated from playoff contention this year. It's never too early to look at next season, so here's a sneak peak of the schedule.

Home Games:
Bears, Lions, Packers, Saints, Bucs, Ravens, Bengals, NFC West 3rd place (currently Rams, could become Cardinals)

Away Games:
Bears, Lions, Packers, Falcons, Panthers, Browns, Steelers, NFC East 3rd place (Redskins)

Notes:
Game "at Browns" will be played in London.
Vikings host Super Bowl after the season.
Since the merger, no team has played in a Super Bowl hosted in their stadium.

Vikings Free Agents:
Matt Kalil
Captain Munnerlyn
Andre Smith
Shaun Hill
Chad Greenway
Terence Newman
Cordarrelle Patterson
Zach Line
Jake Long
Matt Asiata
Audie Cole
Justin Trattou
Jeff Locke

Any games standout? Any way way way too early predictions? Any free agents that you want re-signed? Just trying to move on to next season after seeing how this promising season fell apart early.

I don't care how they juggle it, the Vikings should spend every pick on offensive lineman in this draft coming up.

I'm hoping Vikings re-sign Munnerlyn, Patterson, Asiata, and Locke. I'm fine if they re-sign a couple others. But aside from that, the Vikings need to spend their money and time on rebuilding the offensive line.

Prediction: the Vikings won't be the first team to play in a Super Bowl hosted in their stadium. :(

I'm indifferent when it comes to most of the free agents. I'd like to see them re-sign Patterson.

I want to see them start building more wisely (especially on the OL) and making more sustainable progress as a team.

Agree with all the above.

I badly want the Vikings to be more thoughtful while building. I'm still not getting how any team could believe they can put together a winner without strong playing in the trenches, yet the Vikings seemed to try to do that with the OL. Or did they really overestimate their OL talent that much?

As for rebuilding, that also means making some honest assessments regarding schemes and philosophy. A clearer vision (which is especially needed for the offense) is a must.

I think the team should spend some time on resigning or restructuring some of their fans. I'm in the final year of my contract and elsewhere is starting to look pretty good.

I think it might be the latter and that itself is a problem.

I think they need to be much more thoughtful about the way the build the team.

I agree.

It's hard for me to even look forward to the 2017 Vikings right now. I feel like I've been thrust right back into the early years of the Childress era, complete with ultra-conservative, frustrating offense and a defense that's good enough to be encouraging most of the time but still suffers too many disappointing breakdowns.

I think we have seen the last of #28 in purple. I think the team will spend 3 draft picks on OL, one of which will be a huge reach. The Vikings will some how trade into the first round and give up way too much to do so. During the offseason there will be speculation that Teddy will be back as the starter, but he will enter camp on the pup list and remain there well into the season. The team will rebound and finish off at 10-6 next season.

There's my predictions.

I didn't think that the schedules were released until April?

The week by week schedule isn't released until near the draft. But the teams to be played are known well in advance. We could figure out all but two teams that will be on the schedule for any future year (given that the NFL doesn't change the way the schedules are done).

The schedule is always as follows:

Home - 3 division opponents, 2 teams from NFC X, 2 teams from AFC X, 1 team from NFC Y that finished in same place.

Away - 3 division opponents, 2 teams from NFC X, 2 teams from AFC X, 1 team from NFC Z that finished in same place.

The NFC division that is played is rotated on a three year schedule, the AFC division played is rotated on a four year schedule. Home and Away switch every time the division is played.

Example:

2017 Schedule:

Home: Bears, Lions, Packers (3 division games), Saints, Bucs (2 NFC South games), Ravens, Bengals (2 AFC North games), Cardinals (NFC West game)

Away: Bears, Lions, Packers (3 division games), Falcons, Panthers (2 NFC South games), Browns, Steelers (2 AFC North games), Redskins (NFC East game).

Further, since the Vikings played the NFC East this year, they will play them again in the 2019 season. They played the AFC South so those teams will be played in the 2020 season. There are only two games a year that aren't known in advance and those are the two teams that finish in the same place in their division as the Vikings.

Hope that helps and isn't just confusing.

How in the hell does anyone want munnerlyn and asiata re-signed? Omg lol, i don't get it. Munnerlyn and sendejo are the two biggest liabilities we have on defense, i hope he kicks rocks and takes sendejo with him

I hope The Vikings open up the most extensive research investigation into the offensive line ever made by a team in NFL history. Pretty obvious they don't have much of a handle on understanding the role of the Oline in a football game
