How we will make the playoffs
Updated 17 Dec 12:
If we want the #5 seed the following needs to happen:
Vikings 8-6
Texans W
Packers W
10-6
Seahawks 9-5 (head to head tie breaker)
49ers L
Rams L
9-7
Cowboys 8-6
Saints L
Redskins W
9-7
Redskins 8-6 (head to head tie breaker)
Eagles W
Cowboys L
9-7
Giants 8-6
Ravens L
Eagles W
9-7
Clearly, either the Cowboys, Redskins, or Giants are going to win their division so if one of them goes 10-6 that would still give us the #5 seed.
For us to just make the playoffs this is just one scenario
Vikings 8-6
Texans W
Packers W
10-6
Giants 8-6
Lose either remaining game.
If the giants lose one game and we win out then we will make the playoffs. This is the case because at best the Giants would be 9-7, and the Cowboys (8-6) and Redskins (8-6) play each other so one of them at best will be 9-7 and the other if they win out will be 10-6 and win the division. This is the simplest scenario for us to make it. If the Giants lose next weekend and we win, then the Packers game will be for a playoff spot.

The stuff we smoke up here is top shelf. But the last line of my post did say I didn't see it happening. Just a scenario I came up with while bored at work.purplehaze wrote:That stuff you are smokin up their in Alaska must be some good schit.

Can we get a first round bye? Just curious.

Yes, but it would require the 49ers to lose 3 of their last 4 and the Giants to lose 1 of their last 4. In addition to my scenario posted above with us winning the division.PurpleMustReign wrote:Can we get a first round bye? Just curious.

Re: How we will make the playoffs
Lets just face it, were not making the playoffs. Our team is still in the rebuilding procees and it will still be a couple years before we can think about playoffs. If ponder was still doing as good as he was earlier in the year, I would be saying that we have a reasonable chance of making the playoffs. But now that I know that ponder isnt as good as I thought, I would say the playoffs are definately out of the picture.

Re: How we will make the playoffs
I'm glad you posted all this and the possible scenarios because I sure as hell wouldn't have come up with all this. But unless we see a dramatic change in QB performance from whoever is behind center I don't want to be I the playoffs and get annihilated in front of the whole world. I want our team to be good...really good before I want them in the playoffs.akvikingsfan wrote:Okay now that you read the title and have finished laughing outlined below are the 9 teams fighting for either a wildcard or in our case the division. It is still possible for us to not only win a wildcard berth but the division. Below our the schedules for the teams fighting for playoffs and what we need to happen to win a playoff birth
How we can win the division
Vikings - 6-6
Bears - W
Rams - W
Texans - W
Packers - W
clearly we have to win out in order to be in the race. 10-6 (4-2 division)
Bears - 8-4
Vikings - L
Packers - W
Cardinals -W
Lions - L
The Bears losing to the lions is a long shot, but it is possible. 10-6 (3-3 division)
Packers
Lions - L
Bears - L
Titans - W
Vikings - L
Again lions beating a division rival is a long shot. 10-6 (3-3 division)
With all 3 teams tied at 10-6 we would go to tiebreaker of division record. With a 4-2 record in the division we would top out the other two teams and win the division. However, this is unlikely so the following is how we can get a wildcard
Vikings - 6-6
Bears - W
Rams - W
Texans - W
Packers - W
Again, clearly we have to win out in order to be in the race. 10-6
Bears - 8-4
Vikings - L
Packers - W
Cardinals -W
Lions - W
Bears finish 11-5
Packers - 8-4
Lions - W
Bears - L
Titans - W
Vikings - L
Packers finish 10-6
Cowboys - 6-6
Bengals - W
Steelers - L
Saints - L
Redskins - W
This is completely realistic, cowboys finish at 8-8.
Seahawks - 7-5
Cardinals - W
Bills - W
49ers - L
Rams - L
Seahawks finish at 9-7, this is a realistic situation.
Bucs - 6-6
Eagles - W
Saints - L
Rams - W
Falcons - L
Again nothing here is that far out and it is all possible to happen. Bucs finish 8-8
Redskins - 5-6
Giants - L
Ravens - L
Browns - W
Eagles - W
Cowboys - L
Not asking too much here. Redskins finish 8-8
The following teams don't matter too much, since the best they can do is 9 wins and if we win out we have 10. But I will list them anyway.
Rams - 5-6-1
Bills - W
Vikings -L
Bucs - L
Seahawks - W
Finish at 7-8-1
Saints - 5-7
Giants - L
Bucs - W
Cowboys -W
Panters - W
Finish at 8-8.
In this scenario we would finish at 10-6 behind the Bears and Packers who win the division and #5 seed. We would get the #6 seed and most likely have to go play the Bears. Realistically, I do not see this happening, but I was bored at work. So here you go. I hope we find a way to pull it off. Skol Vikings.

Re: How we will make the playoffs
Get a qb and we can talk about playoffs
Re: How we will make the playoffs
Also, I know that some people like myself, need to know who to cheer for/against on the weekends. Especially after a Vikings win.
I know right now we are cheering for the Saints to beat the Giants.
