Any word on the Rookies for us

also any guys that were surprise pick ups for us or practice guys last year Hard to get a read on guys in practice without pads. Cook had a minor injury earlier in the offseason which prevented him from taking part in 100% of OTAs. I've heard very little about him otherwise. Toby wasn't at all of them either, but for academic reasons. Webb has been the talk of the offseason. Once speculated to be a WR, he has been moved back to QB. Defense likes what Griffen brings to the table. Heard next to nothing on DeGeare. Look for much more info and a much more accurate read on players once camp begins.

Re: Any word on the Rookies for us
thanks dead poet
If we ever want a ring in the next decade or two the time is probably now for us. we have some aging players and IMO have a complete team. If Toby can do a good job filling Chestors role and a few guys step up we have a real shot.
if the draft is bad or Bret hangs it up I think we will have to rebuild again before we have the chance to win a superbowl again.

Chester is a versatile veteran, and Toby is a rookie. I think the more likely scenario is that Peterson is going to be expected to become a more complete RB and pick up those things that Chester handled. Until he proves otherwise, all that will be asked of Gerhart is to run the ball when Peterson needs a rest.

Re: Any word on the Rookies for us
I don't think so he ran for over 1700 yards his last year and even made a touchdown pass or two.
I am not saying he will replace Chestor day one but I hope childress gets smart and uses him early in games to wear teams down and then turns adrian lose in the second half when defenses wear down. Peterson makes most of his yards in the second half a lot of games anyways.

Re: Any word on the Rookies for us
I know people have been down on this draft, but I don't think its so bad. Probably didn't get any huge impact players (though griffen may have that potential) but I think we got guys who can contribute. Cook is really who this draft will hinge on. If he's worthless it would have to be considered a failure but if he becomes a starter during the next couple years I think it will have been a solid draft. Not great, but not bad.

I believe Joe Webb is the only 6th round pick who hasn't signed and Shuler is one of three left in the 7th. I don't think there's any doubt they'll sign, I just hope we don't have a Cook or Gerhart holdout.

Everson Griffen-DL-Vikings Jul. 27 - 8:19 pm et Vikings agreed to terms with fourth-round DE Everson Griffen on a multi-year contract.
A late first-rounder based on talent alone, Griffen fell due to consistency and work ethic concerns. The Vikings have high hopes for the athletic pass rusher after an impressive spring, and he could enter the starting lineup as Ray Edwards' replacement as soon as 2011. Source: ESPN.com

Re: Any word on the Rookies for us
Chris Cook and Toby Gerhart likely will get contracts done before camp opens. Cook's agent, Hadley Engelhard, said in a e-mail Tuesday that, "we have had good, constant dialogue and are making progress." Meanwhile, Gerhart's father told KFAN Radio this morning that an agreement could be reached today. http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikin ... c:_Yyc:aUU

QB Webb agrees to dealQuote: Posted by Judd Zulgad
The Vikings and sixth-round pick Joe Webb have reached an agreement on a deal, according to NFL sources.
Webb is the final pick from the sixth round to agree to a contract. The Vikings now have three unsigned draft picks, including second-rounders Chris Cook (cornerback) and Toby Gerhart (fullback) and fifth-round offensive lineman Chris DeGeare.
The expectation is the Vikings will have all eight of their picks signed by the time they open training camp with a practice on Friday.
Webb, a quarterback at Alabama-Birmingham, was taken with the expectation he would be moved to wide receiver. However, he impressed the Vikings enough with his throwing during a rookie camp that he will enter training camp battling for a job at the quarterback position.
Odds seem high that he will stick on the 53-man roster. http://www.startribune.com/blogs/Access ... cQ_8ciaXUU

Chris DeGeare-G-Vikings Jul. 28 - 12:17 pm et Vikings agreed to terms with fifth-round OG Chris DeGeare on a four-year contract.
DeGeare, a 335-pound mauler from Wake Forest, was a three-year starter for the Demon Deacons. A fit for Minnesota's mostly power-blocking scheme, he could push Anthony Herrera for the Vikings' starting right guard job in time. Source: Judd Zulgad on Twitter

He told them to screw off and went and played baseball. Raiders drafted him the following year and were fine with letting him play a partial season after baseball was done.

Re: Any word on the Rookies for us
Gerhart remains unsigned http://www.startribune.com/sports/vikings/blogs/99592704.htmlIf this kid ends up holding out for any extended period of time, I'm going to be pretty pissed. I thought they made a bad trade to move up in the draft and it seemed like a reach considering we already have an all-pro RB. Add that to the fact that he missed most of OTAs to finish school, he really needs to "get his tail signed" as Chilly said. Considering both the guys above and below him in the draft have been signed I don't see any reason he hasn't agreed to a contract yet. Looks like there are only four unsigned 2nd round picks and he is the lowest one. Obviously AD is going to get most of the touches this year but Gerhart really needs to get here and show he was worth that trade/pick. Go Vikings
