I think that is exactly the right call by Frasier. Harvin is smaller player in the leagues and has had some durability issues. The question really is if you want to risk losing him on offensive downs so you can put him into the return game. I do not dissagree that he is their best return guy, but is it worth having him return punts/kicks if you risk losing him on offense to do so? I don't think that is coaching scared, I think it is coaching smart. EDIT: Demi beat me to it.

I can’t speak for the coaches and what impresses them, but for me it’s leg strength. On Saturday I watched Walsh hit six consecutive 46-yard field goals and then he was good on two of three tries from 55 yards. This spring he made a 59-yarder in practice and I was told on Saturday that Walsh hit a 60-yarder on Friday. Where Walsh’s leg strength will also come in handy is on kickoffs. The Vikings were near the bottom of the League last year in touchback percentage, and I expect that number to jump significantly in 2012 with Walsh handling those duties. http://www.vikings.com/news/article-1/M ... 9069b35953Can we start referring to any information on this guy as "The Blair Walsh Project"? No? Ok

Quote: Vikings have waived CB Nick Taylor, who suffered a shoulder injury on Friday, and signed Chris Stroud, rookie DB from Webber International. Quote: Waiving Taylor means they can work out an injury settlement (which is likely) or move him to injured reserve.

Quote: Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after an allergic reaction to seafood he ate for lunch at the team dormitory.
Peterson was taken to the hospital by ambulance after experiencing shortness of breath and swelling in the face that caused Vikings personnel to call 911. He was back with the team resting in the dorms by the time the Vikings concluded their afternoon practice shortly after 5 p.m. Quote: Receiver Percy Harvin left practice for a few minutes after jamming a finger on his right hand, but he returned to action after missing several plays. http://min.scout.com/2/1206727.html

I'm starting to wonder if Webb should be allowed to compete with Ponder..
I want ponder to succeed as our QB.. he is saying and doing a lot of the rights things
his progression is not as far as I would like currently

his progression is not as far as I would like currently After three days of training camp and one practice in pads? After a rookie season with no preseason at all? After being thrown into the starting QB role last year because the veteran they brought in was a complete bust? Yeah, he should have a ring by now.

Re: **Official '12 Vikings Training Camp Thread
John Carlson - TE - Vikings
Vikings TE John Carlson is expected to be sidelined a few weeks after sustaining a sprained MCL in Tuesday's practice.
Carlson will be sent for an MRI to determine the severity, but the Vikings don't believe it's a full tear. Kyle Rudolph had already emerged as Christian Ponder's favorite target early in camp. Carlson's absence may serve to exaggerate that reliance on Rudolph, generating momentum heading into the season. Rudolph is knocking on the door to TE1 territory while Carlson is undraftable in fantasy leagues.

I wonder if Carlson is going to be able to get healthy and stay healthy for the Vikes this year.
