Re: Week 1 reaction thread

I think the gas pedal is more an issue for the offense and this offense went for it in a way I haven't seen a vikings team do it in over a decade! a DECADE! the prevent, while not sexy, is a useful end game tool, it essentially is giving up the chance of a big blow up play for the guarantee of time...

Re: Week 1 reaction thread

I really think Treadwell and Floyd will have significant impacts as defenses learn to key down on Diggs and Thielen. If the line can make strides and stay relatively healthy, the potential for guys like Kyle, Cook and McKinnon to make huge plays in the passing game becomes exponential. This team is ...

Re: Week 1 reaction thread

Not to be a negative nancy. But remember; according to last years stats we put up a nearly *exactly* average offense display against the Saints. I don't think it's negative. There needs to be some sobriety around it all. Still, an average offense is leaps better than what was on the field last seas...

Re: Saints @ Vikings Game Day Discussion Thread -- Week 1

Great way to start. I was much more impressed with the D tonight, especially the run D. Pretty much dominated a known commidity in the Saints offense...specifically in the red zone. Hard to know yet about the Vikes offense due to the Saints having a suspect D. I'm not expecting Sam having 3full seco...

Re: Intersting Interview on Sirius just now

It definitely can go either way based on lots of little factors just like every season for most teams, which is why seeing the collective attitude and effort week 1 will say much about their trajectory for the season. The line could take some time to gel, but the defense will keep them in games, ass...

Re: Vikings select C/G Pat Elflein, Ohio St.

It was an unbelievable slew of injuries...eerily like the season under Friazer when all the DBs went down. That really tests the depth. I remember Frank Walker coming out of nowhere and basically outplaying most of the other reserve DBs. The critical lesson in all of it for me, is recognizing what's...

Re: Win against the Saints is a must because.......

I forgot and wanted to add to my rambling take that for me, the bigger part of coaching o-line, at the pro-level, is scheme and adjustments. Moving guys to help and mixing protection to nullify what the defense is doing. If you have a draft pick who has several years of organised ball on the line (h...

Re: Win against the Saints is a must because.......

I take a different view of the O-line. I think part of it comes down to "who wants it more," but a much bigger part comes from technique and coaching. Every one of these guys is a monster. They're all 300+ pounds and strong as Babe the Blue Ox. Physically, the guys who win are the guys wh...

Re: Win against the Saints is a must because.......

I'm actually expecting a significant change on these terms along the o-line.....at least on the interior and specifically the run game. I can't imagine that there has been some cutting edge, new technique developed for lineman. It's all known and comes down to force of will, reaction and consistency...

Re: Win against the Saints is a must because.......

certainly would like to see that out of this team. I think that is the difference between good teams and great teams. Part of it lies with the culture created at the top and the other lies within the character of the players themselves. Do they care? GMs and coaches who are able to sus out these typ...
