Your argument that the girl at 15 is too young is all fine and good, but he was only 17. Why is it all legally his fault? If he was 20, this would be a different story, but he's 17. Isn't he a minor too? Yes, he is but the discussion had moved somewhat beyond that specific case. FWIW, I don't think...

I'm not saying forced marriages or convenience marriages or anything like that, just age of consent and marriage reform is all. I was being sarcastic, giving you a hard time about "centuries" comment. ;) The facts are plain though. People have always been sexually active, you can't legisl...

Throughout most of history people were married by their mid teens so its not like it would be the end of the world or anything. I don't think anybody is claiming it would be the end of the world but suspect we'd see more lives ruined. Seemed to work out fine for most of Europe and even America for ...

Why can't it be both?  15 is plenty old enough, 18 is one of the highest age of consent years in the whole world and look what it has got us: High rates of teenage pregnancy, VD, and ludicrous prison sentences and laws. So lowering the age of consent is going to solve those problems?...

Hunter Morrow wrote:Isn't 15 old enough to decide if you want to be sexually active? A quarter of all kids have had sex by 15, and half by 17.
I'd take oral sex from a 15 year old and I'm nearly 20. Gasp!
Hunter, you might want to reconsider that outlook. It could obviously get you into serious trouble!

No, I'm not. I am arguing against a stupid law that has this kid in prison for 10 years for doing something very imnor and something that he didn't start. I agree that the sentence doesn't fit the crime in this case. However, defending him on the basis that the girl initiated the act in question se...

I wasn't attempting to defend the prosecution's current stance. I was just pointing out that they asked for the mandatory minimum penalty, not the maximum, as you suggested.

The prosecutor also has plenty of leeway to ask for sentencing, too. To ask for the maximum penalty in this case is an abortion, a complete mockery of justice. From the article: Indeed, when the jurors found out there was a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence, several were incensed. It looks like he...

Re: Outrageous Injustice

1. This is one of the sickest stories I have ever read. How this kid is in jail, and there are REAL convicted child molesters on the street almost makes me cry. 2. How, with everyone saying what a joke this law is, is the state of Georgia still letting this go on? You mean to tell me they can't let...
