Re: Free Agent Offensive Linemen 2017
There is a serious lack of OL talent in the league right now. There are a ton of teams with OL problems of varying degree. What that means is that it isn't often that quality offensive linemen are allowed to hit the open market, and when they do they come at a premium. My guess is that Kevin Zeitler...

If it was going to happen this offseason, it would have already.mansquatch wrote:I'm wondering if Marvin Lewis survives? Cincy had a window in 2015 and squandered it. This season they were awful. Maybe Cincy is about to go to rebuild mode?

Re: Vikings Grades: Wide receiver
I wouldn't bother with a returner. The Vikings presently have the best in the league with Patterson. Re-sign him and the team has yet another speed element plus a 3rd option with big play potential, who is ultimately more valuable than Johnson. Well sure, if you kept Patterson then that's all taken...

Re: Vikings grades: Offensive Line
I've read that Cincy has still not began any kind of talks with Zeitler They talked last offseason, but didn't get anything done by the time the games started so they broke things off. Given that they are likely moving on from Whitworth and chose not to pay Smith, you'd think they'd pony up for Zei...

BTW, moving into a more west coast style doesn't mean excessive pass happy game plans necessarily. They just need a runner who is suited to that style.

Re: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to return, open to pay
One thing frequently left out of the conversation about the Vikes playing more from the shotgun and moving away from Peterson is their relative lack of success with that strategy. That doesn't mean it can't be successful but they failed to put together a winning season leaning on that approach in 2...

Re: Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to return, open to pay
In my opinion, the reason why the offense becomes so run heavy or "one note" with Peterson in is because he basically requires that the offense run from under center if he's going to be effective. And if you're running your offense from under center, then you had better be run heavy or you...

Re: Do we bring Captain Munnerlyn back?
I don't think he would be too expensive. He's a great Nickle CB who can start if needed. He is important for depth. So what are you thinking? Like 2 years, 10M with 6 guaranteed? Because something like that would be fine, but you just never know anymore. Financially, corner has become a premium pos...

Re: Vikings Grades: Defensive Line
I would argue that what we need much more than a run plugger (as has been mentioned, Linval Joseph is that guy) is a disruptive 3 technique. That's the role Floyd should be playing, but he hasn't been reliable. Even if they decide not to cut him for the cap savings, they need to find another penetra...

Re: Do we bring Captain Munnerlyn back?
I don't think so unless it's short and relatively cheap. They're going to have to pay out for Rhodes soon, and they'll want to be in good position to be able to extend Waynes at some point. Alexander is off to a slow start, but corners traditionally take time to get going in this system. That was tr...

Re: Vikings Grades: Wide receiver
They invested in the guy who should become the RZ weapon last year. If Treadwell's game is anything, it's that. Now we have to hope it pays off, because in my opinion this team doesn't have he luxury of investing in another similar player with premium resources. This is especially true given the lac...

Re: Vikings Grades: Wide receiver
This is one position where I think they can afford to hold serve and invest resources elsewhere. Diggs is an excellent receiver in a timing offense, Thielen has proven to be quite reliable, and Wright brings a speed element. Treadwell didn't exactly thrive year one, but he's talented and clearly the...

I think you have a find a balance. Injuries need to be factored as reasons for success/failure, without being a crutch for excusing all the issues on the team.Dmizzle0 wrote:So injuries wasn't at fault? They don't affect the chemistry of the team?
So the Texans would've beaten the Raiders if Carr was playing.

Re: Done, I have zero interest in following the 2017 Vikings
I'm so sick of hearing about the injuries. Some mediocre to bad OL players went down and even worse ones took their places. Jim is right. There is a stack of things needing fixing on this team. The horrendous OL problem is just one item. A big one, yes, but still just one. I totally get being sick ...

Re: Vikings grades: Offensive Line
It's hard to imagine both Zeitler and Whitworth hitting free agency without the Bengals re-signing at least one of them and I find it even more difficult to imagine the Vikings signing 3 of the top OL free agents in one offseason. The Steelers signed David DeCastro (who was drafted just a few picks...
