Glad we moved up to take Elflein (who Zimmer thought would be more of a center due to lack of size).
How bad was this year's OL class:
Gil Brandt: Only 10 OL taken in first 3 rounds -- tied for 2nd fewest in common draft era

Re: 2017 draft thread
Elijah Lee left KState early to get drafted in the 7th round. Wonder if he would like to take a mulligan. Ben Leber on Elijah Lee: "Lee is a stud. Has a nose for the ball and runs with his hair on fire." Hope Leber is right but he played at KState so I suppose there is at least some bias t...

Re: 2017 draft thread
It sure looks like he enjoys it too much and I'm beginning to wonder if other GMs see him as an "easy mark", a GM who will rarely say no if they want to move up to the Vikings spot. After this year his nickname of Trader Rick might morph into Gigolo Rick or Rick The Tramp or ... nevermind.

Re: 2017 draft thread
The third round pick we dealt was 86. We also owned 104, 109, & 132 at various points! Fair point. I was looking strictly at the decision to move down from #139. Yesterday Spielman was asked in his presser what he enjoys most about the draft and he said it was doing trades. Perhaps he enjoys it...

Johnson (#115), Siragusa (#122) and Davenport (#130) were all off the board at #139.Texas Vike wrote: I'd have drafted Dorian Johnson, Siragusa, or Julie'n Davenport, myself.
I think with where our roster is at, it is a bad strategic move. It is OK that you have a different opinion, though.

Re: 2017 draft thread
OK, Stephen has look OK at best as a rotational DT Kearse looked absolutely lost when he played last year. He made Sendejo look like Ronnie Lott Robinson, maybe he might be OK depth. But you can get starters in the 4th, better than OK depth So you are writing off Kearse after his rookie season. He ...

Re: 2017 draft thread
I don't think we need more bodies. I think we need more quality football players, particularly on the OL. This draft has the worst OL pool in years. At #139 the quality OL were long gone and many of those that were off the board went higher than they would have in a normal year. When you get into t...

Re: 2017 draft thread
Spielman has had some success bottom feeding the last three years: 2016 Jayron Kearse at #244 2015 Edmond Robinson at #232 2014 Shamar Stephen at #220 Once you get deep into the 4th round it becomes more and more of a crapshoot. There is something to be said for increasing your chances by increasing...

Re: 2017 draft thread
Wonder what the plan is for Elflein this year:
Berger (C) - Elflein (RG) ..... then moving Elflein to C next year
Elflein (C) - Berger (RG) with Berger there to help Elflein with line calls
Thought Nick Easton played okay at center last year and is still developing.

We gave up a 5th rounder.Texas Vike wrote: I think so too, I like his ability to play center or either guard position.
Anyone know what we gave up to move from 79?
Think it was a good move given how thin this OL class is.

Re: Vikings select RB Dalvin Cook, Florida St.
So glad we got Dalvin Cook at #41. Tremendous value and he was well worth trading up for. I was afraid we were going to reach for an OL in the 2nd. With Lamp off the board there was no OL even close to Cook's value. The report that Spielman spent 45 minutes on the phone with him today getting assura...

Re: Top 16 remaining
If we take an OG at #48 and he can't beat out Sirles, Kerin or Beavers then we should pass and go with BPA at a different position. Just hope Spielman isn't locked into to taking the best OL at #48 to make up for deficiencies of the past.
