Those are not remotely similar. We gave Cousins $84M. Guaranteed. All of it.

If he flops, its going to be hard to justify keeping a GM who made that massive of a mistake. I don't think you get a mulligan if you miss on an "all in" move like this.

Nice write up, very optimistic. We will need all that talent this year, I think we have the hardest schedule I have ever seen.

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

We had a need to protect our HUGE QB investment. I would say 90% of the so called experts said the same thing. We need a good guard or tackle with our first pick (and imo our second pick). Ones that can play, and protect Cousins from the start of the season. We failed to do that. I am betting it wil...

Looks like Elflein won't be participating in OTAs, hopefully ready by camp.
Was there any reason why he isnt going to PTA's? A lot may be changed on that line and he is our best lineman.

I think Conklin and Carlson are 2 players who can start day 1. And I bet they surprise some people. Even if we sometimes use Conklin as a large WR. Nice hands, athletic.

Re: Vikings 2018 UDFAs

Kamryn Pettway Might be a real good pickup. A good switch from Cook, and hes a big man, going to be hard to stop on 3rd and short, and goal line. Plus it sounds like he can block well, maybe a beefy FB for Cook. Why can I find any info on the 2 WR's we got? IMO we need WR more then CB. If anyone thi...

Re: Vikings 2018 UDFAs

Kinda like the Hill pick. Taller then Hughes, and better against the run. But Hughes is going to be the return man, i have no doubt at all about that. And he may be a damn good one. Going to suck to see Sherels go, hes been a favorite Viking of mine.

Re: 5th Round Pick- Tyler Conklin- TE, Central Michigan

Saw his measurables and figured he must be a basketball guy. High athleticism, we'll see if it translates on the field or he's another Bucky Hodges. I never understood the Bucky cut. He looked solid in pre season and the he was gone. Had to be more because his play was great. Didn't he get hurt? Se...

Re: 5th Round Pick- Tyler Conklin- TE, Central Michigan

I never even saw this guys name while looking at TE's. But i am ok with this pick. I think hes going to become good in the passing game, would love to see him as a FB for first downs and endzone games. And declaring him eligible near the end zone, should be fun. But he is a project guy too. Rick got...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

Who is backing up Linval? We have no one. The depth behind Kendricks and Gedeon also doesn't look very good. Exacerbated by Brothers screw up. I was thinking the same thing as to who was going to back up Joseph. My guess is it's going to be Johnson Maybe but his issue last year was run defense. He'...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

And you think Hughes will make the difference? Thats hes better then Rhodes and Waynes now? He isnt even ready to take Newmans spot. Rick picked another athlete, much like CP84, and thinks Zim can make him a star. Maybe someday, but we didnt need a guy thats this much of a project now. Unless one of...

Great post S197. No reason for me to post what I was going to in fact. I guess I thought Rick would understand what quality linemen are at this point, but he neglects it again. Unless theres a lot more to O'Neil then Ive heard or seen anywhere.

A project, troubled, CB.
And an even bigger project Tackle.

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

After listening to both Rick and Zim, I dont think they will be dropping Waynes. I think he was BPA on their board, and Zim is always looking to improve the D, and he thought Hughes was the best way to do that. I still dont like the pick basically because we had more needs now that needed to be fill...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

He is small, very little experience, and has character issues. I just dont see what the Vikings office saw. I think once again Rick is overlooking the value of offensive linemen. If we dont go Oline in rd 2, we better pick Anthony Miller. Man, I love this guy. He is like a faster Diggs, with better ...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread

Per Rick, the Vikings fielded a number of calls 5-6 picks before their spot. No calls while on the clock though. Wynn went six picks before them. Other than Bryant, I'm not sure who they were standing pat to land. I wonder if Rick could do it again if he would've accepted one of those calls, depend...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread

Betting this means they are moving on from Waynes. He's easily the guy you get rid of between Barr, Diggs, Hunter and Waynes. Be interested to see if they try to move him to try to get an OG here soon, or simply let him walk and take the compensatory pick. I hadnt thought of that. He would be reall...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread

This pick took the wind right out of my sails. We could have even picked Anthony Miller, WR, who would have been a much better choice, and more of a need. And he is twice the WR that Hughes is a CB. It a little bit like a nightmare. Lamaur Jackson would have been a better pick. In terms of pure BPA...

They guys on FOX said 15th overall on the board, but he is way too frigging small for that. I doubt we see him play for 2 years. I havent hated a pick so much in ages.

Re: QB's and cap space.

Waynes may be the hardest to replace though. I dont think he is the best player of the bunch, but he has learned his position well. And I think CB is the hardest position to learn. Waynes has natural instincts when it comes to run stopping and run support, even taking on blockers. He is now in a pos...

Re: 2018 Season General Thread (News, Notes, Interviews, etc

Just a stat I found interesting: the last three years 79% of all passes travel between 0-19 yards in the air. Last season it was 94%. We put too much emphasis on "deep passing accuracy." I think you are right. Maybe Teddy can make himself a great QB some day. But its still nice to have Cousins, who...

A good idea imo. Making sure our future HOF RB is 110% first. Then let him play a little longer in the pre seasons games. I hope he heals like AD did. I am SOOO excited to see him again, he was my favorite in that draft before Rick made the wise choice to make him a Viking!
