Re: Preseason Week 3 Post Game Thoughts

I don't really understand what folks have seen in Wieneke on the field. He made a nice play on the go-ahead two-pointer, but what else? I guess I wouldn't object to him getting a spot on the practice squad, but I don't see what he's done to earn one of the 53. Zylstra clearly has the track record fr...

Re: Preseason Week 3 Post Game Thoughts

Obviously Sloter outplayed Siemian tonight; how realistic is it to think Sloter could claim the backup job? Any chance the Vikings use the Tennessee game to hold an open competition for QB2?

That Ridiculous Illegal Formation Call

Treadwell didn't have a particularly good game, but that illegal formation foul he was called for in the second quarter was utter garbage. Referee Pete Morelli declared that "number eleven covered up the tight end"—but that's very difficult to understand in light of the fact that at the sn...

Re: Hello. Eagles fan here.

These are two very evenly-matched teams with "backup" quarterbacks at the helm. {The Eagles} have the advantage playing at home and outdoors and Keenum didn't exactly light the world on fire the last time he played in cold weather in Green Bay. I'm not trying to express an opinion on the ...

Vikes Fans Flooding Saints P Morstead's Foundation with $$$

This is a very nice story: Saints punter Thomas Morstead was the first Saints player to come back to the field for the point after touchdown, even though he was in extreme pain from tearing cartilage on his rib cage from an earlier tackle on Vikings return man Marcus Sherels after his first punt of...

Re: Vikes open as 3 point favorites in Philly.

Looking at Philly with a little more depth: (....) Interesting tidbit: Last offensive touchdown was scored in the 1st QTR of the game vs. OAK. Wait, what? They got a LeGarrette Blount rushing touchdown in the second quarter of the divisional playoff against Atlanta. That score was the culmination o...

Re: Vikes open as 3 point favorites in Philly.

I think people are underestimating the Philly run game. Agreed! One unit that I haven't seen analyzed on this thread ( edit: no, Texas Vike discussed it; sorry ) is the Eagles' offensive line, which is terrific. It's easily the best part of their offense post-Wentz. I'm okay with the Vikings going ...

Re: Post revenge thoughts on bountygate?

We were actually penalized a ton more that game than the Vikes. Yes, that's what generally happens when "your" game plan includes systematically violating the rules of the sport. The fact that the Saints, having committed vastly more fouls than the Vikings did, were penalized more ...

Re: Post revenge thoughts on bountygate?

I just don't understand how anyone can contend that the bounty system didn't have a meaningful effect on a game that went to overtime, especially given the way regulation ended. Yes, certainly, the three Viking fumbles, the third-quarter interception, and the bizarre 12-men penalty were major contri...

Re: Doomed by a magical season

Week 1.. ... Our defense handles the Saints, and we're left with a beautiful 1-0 to start the season. Then monday happened.. Sam Bradford is questionable with a knee bruise.... Bit of a nitpick, but of course the Week 1 win over New Orleans already was on a Monday. After winning NFC Offensive Playe...

Re: Playoff scenarios

The sort of complicated/interesting possibility here is if the Vikings go 1-1 in their remaining games, giving the Rams, Saints, and Panthers a shot at winning out and tying them. Amusingly (well, *I* think it's amusing), in any 3- or 4-way tie among those teams, the Vikings win. The only tie in whi...

New Vikings practice-squad QB: Kyle Sloter

One mildly surprising recent signing to fill out the Vikings' practice squad is former University of Northern Colorado QB Kyle Sloter (pronounced SLOW-ter, not "slaughter"), who had just been cut by the Broncos. He's got a heck of a story , and it's interesting that the Vikings appear to h...

Re: Continued Disrespect for Vikings

Er, at the risk of appearing overly anal retentive, I'd point out some of us prognosticators seem to be leaving a 5-10% chance of someone unexpected—the Badgers? The Spartans? The Memphis Maniax?—swooping in to steal the 2016 NFC North title: 40% Vikes, 40% packers, 5% bears 5% lions 35% vikings, 40...

Re: Notable 2016 Offseason Moves

You must be old. Ouch! I don't know if I'm proving you right or wrong by telling you that I was born during the run of that show. I'm, uh, younger than Matt Hasselbeck.... I sure thought "Welcome Back, Kotter" was, and remains, a common pop-cultural reference. In any case, sportsw...
