Re: Justin Jefferson

Bill Barnwell at ESPN posted this idea today (noting that he has no idea if the Vikes or JJ want a trade): Patriots get: WR Justin Jefferson, #1-23 Vikings get: #1-3 Supposedly this values JJ as the #7 pick in the draft. Vikes keep #1-11. Draft Maye or whoever at #1-3 and then best WR at #1-11 or t...

Re: Justin Jefferson

That's why I want them to try something new. Not waiting and hoping whoever they want falls or whoever falls will work out. Not hoping you can coach up some 3rd or 4th rounder behind a free agent QB. Actually target a QB that fits your offense and do everything you can to get them. They have not tr...

Re: Justin Jefferson

No strategy has panned out for our team no matter what the approach has been. We are the Bears when it comes to selecting a QB. This current class appears to be much deeper than the normal class. That is from the early round projections down to the lower projections. I started this off with thinkin...

Re: Justin Jefferson

Nothing is wrong with Levis in hindsight. In the 2023 draft every NFL team agreed the 1st round was too high for him. My guess is the staff thought he was a significant reach in the 1st or maybe didn't want him at all. They couldn't move up for a "top tier" option and decided not to pull ...

Re: Justin Jefferson

I keep seeing people write this, but how? In 2022 a QB wasn't picked until #20 (Kenny Pickett). The next wasn't selected until the 3rd. It wasn't a good draft to pick a QB. In 2023 they tried to trade up for a QB, reportedly offering multiple 1sts to do so. They couldn't get a partner. They could h...

Re: Justin Jefferson

I’m aware there’s a salary cap. But the weight of the QB position dictates that you may have to sacrifice in other areas. You don’t skimp at QB. Darnold is skimping. You know why this year’s draft is so exciting? Cause it’s all we have. Ah, The Kirk Cousins Effect is in full force. He’s not even a ...

Re: Justin Jefferson

I messed up the structure of my last post. Not very good with technology. And I’m only 35! It's not really "technology", it's just a tag system. Image links go between an image tag, quotes go between a quote tag, to bold text it goes between the bold tag, etc. It's pretty simple but I cou...

Re: Justin Jefferson

You'd pay Cousins 180m over 4 years and only start him 1 or 2 years? I would have been happy if Cousins’ last Vikings extension was longer, and would have been cheaper at that time. Now IF Kwesi had brought in some real potential simmering behind Cousins for the last 2 years… that would be a differ...

Kwesi should’ve protected the present AND future simultaneously, but he didn’t. Could’ve had Maye/Penix sitting behind Cousins for a year or 2 and developing in to a dynasty level QB.

Re: Justin Jefferson

I'm ok either way at this point.

If he signs they've got the best receiver in football. If not, they get compensation and don't have to pay Jefferson $265,000 per catch freeing up cap.

Re: 2024 NFL Draft

No question. That's why overpaying for a QB was a bad idea, especially on a "defense first" team. Zimmer knew it would happen and he's not psychic. They weren't able to make any moves to improve the team in FA. One bad pick in the draft does not explain what happened. Zimmer took one of (...

Re: 2024 NFL Draft

That's what FA is. The top available will be overpaid because it's an auction. Look what that Falcon team just paid a good QB coming off an injury. The Falcons draft of a tier 2 QB didn't work. That 2017 team had the number 1 D and then in 2018 it dropped to 17. That's a huge decline year over year...

Re: 2024 NFL Draft

Your right with being stupefied. They would let it slide. I know the check down to Hock didn't slide away. That will be his signature play for us. I'll keep it more positive and remember the long 4th down strike to JJ against the Bills. Kirk was pretty damn good for us. Sometimes great. We never ha...

Re: 2024 NFL Draft

I disagree with you both. You almost make my argument for me with your posts. Draft picks, what are they really worth? Look up some analytics on draft bust rates of 1st and 2nd round picks. Might open some eyes. Without a young QB to build around, they have near zero chance to compete. Period. Thos...
