Re: Vikings Draft Picks

Did you get to see Compton play much for the Bears? I only watched him against the Vikings and I can say he didn't stick out like a sore thumb. There is a good chance he starts. Isadora against the Browns was truly a mess. Gosset, Andrews and O'neil are the wild cards. I suppose Aviante Collins cou...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

At this point, how do you think you would arrange the 2018 starting OL for the Vikings using the players currently on the roster? Or if you'd rather, who do you predict to be starting along the OL in Week 1? I haven't seen much (or any) of some of those players yet so it's hard to say how I would a...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

At the end of the day, Spielman's job is tied to Cousins. If Cousins flops, Spielman will be gone. Didn't people say that about Spielman, Zimmer and Bridgewater too? Rick's got more lives than a cat. :) He spent 3 first round draft picks on QBs in 7 years, none of them are still with the team and h...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

Thats probably true, although it sounds like they were hyped over Ragnow, and I would bet if Quenton Nelson were somehow available at 30, he would have taken him. Its probably not quite so concrete as to make it a rule, but I have no doubt you are correct in terms of Spielman generally believing it...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

I agree Jim - it's not Spielman's style to go with guards early, probably because very few guards are usually taken in the 1st round of most drafts. It is not a position that typically finds a lot of love in the 1st for most GM's. But still, to suggest that Spielman would see a legit need at a posi...

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

I think if Spielman and Zimmer really thought the offensive line was in dire straits at even one position, they would have addressed it by now in free agency or via a trade. Considering their history, that's a generous assumption. If they thought any of the offensive linemen available at #30 was an...

Re: New Kickoff Rules

I'm not pessimistic on Hughes when it comes to that pick. Hughes, based on what we know now, should be an upgrade over Alexander and might also help in the return game. The issue I have is they neglected other significant areas of need in order to take him and that leave a bad taste in the mouth. I...

Re: New Kickoff Rules

I think so too. When I read this part; I thought about our first round pick and his added value in that role. It also makes me wonder what Patterson might do this year. It also makes me wonder if Bill Belichick had a pretty good idea this was the direction things were going. If so, that would be go...

Thanks for your efforts, Cliff. It seems like this was quite a bit of work!

Is there a way I can modify the appearance of the board so that all of the text isn't in bold? Perhaps that kind of individual customization isn't an option?

Re: Vikings Draft Picks

I get corner is much more important in a pass dominant league but 3 first rounders and a 2nd is really excessive. It's excessive plus, another thing that's important in a pass-dominant league is pass protection . Theories about why this pick was made will abound but I think you nailed it last night...

Off topic, but since we're talking about the defense: @NicholasJOlson (Nick Olson): The average passer rating allowed by a cornerback in 2017 was 84.3. The Vikings' passer ratings allowed were: • Xavier Rhodes: 73.2 • Terence Newman: 76.7 • Mackensie Alexander: 60.3 • Trae Waynes: 83.0 Not a single...

Re: Next years QB

You can have an aggressive offense without an aggressive QB. Just need a good play caller. Foles and the Eagles come to mind. I don't consider Foles as a risky or aggressive QB. He was certainly aggressive in the Super Bowl. :) I see the point you're trying to make but I still think the mentality o...

Re: Next years QB

His 'aggressive style' was the turning point in the Championship game (IMO of course). That first INT he threw was late, into triple coverage, and off target. Being hit as he threw it had a little something to do with that INT too ( edit: oops—I see you already responded to a comment about that). W...

Do you mean "meaningful snaps"? Because I'm pretty sure that the reverse is true: Teddy had played more recently than Sam. Yes, I meant meaningful playing time. Re: Next years QB

I think the fact that Bradford got the nod ahead of Teddy to back up Case in the playoffs revealed Zimmer's evaluation of his talents. Even though he previously seemed a bit biased in Teddy's favor, that is pretty telling IMO. I fear that his knee is just not all the way back yet. It probably isn't...

Re: Next years QB

No argument here. He certainly shares in the blame for our inadequacies in QB depth, although I don't believe he was the sole reason. What I do think, however, is that he's grown in the job. His track record proves it. Our recent drafts have been very good, and you also have to look at how well we'...
